Can I get my skin back?

PatsyCline · 11/03/2008 20:12

Okay, I have always had good skin, but the past three years have been pants and have taken their toll on my face. I use a great foundation but there's only a certain amount even Chanel can do!

I feel like my skin needs an overhaul. It looks tired (like I feel).

Any sugesstions, please? I have tried the el cheapo Waitrose baby butter and it made me spotty. Could anyone recoommend a peel/Microdermabrasion/series of facials etc?

Cleanse with a muslin cloth and warm water. Drink plenty of water (boring but cheap)

If you have 60 quid I highly recommend Dr.Sebagh's deep exfoliating peel mask.

It's from Spacenk and it will make a difference to your skin.

Thanks, Ep and SC. Shall try the cheapo option first but may be able to get to SpaceNK next week!

Any more suggestions?

am usinf boots time delay microabrasion thingy at the moment - skin looking and feeling very good

also, try that serum they do (perform and protect I think) the one everyone went wild for - is VERY good, but you do need a mosituriser too, they do some good SPF15 ones, or there is one with the microabrasion set I got

good luck - is rotten when something you've always had no trouble with lets you down

PatsyCline · 12/03/2008 10:48

Thanks, JG. I have got the Boots serum as a well-meaning friend bought me it for my 40th! I will check out the microbrasion product - I may even have enough points for a free try out.

If I still look rough when I go to the big city on the 17th then SpaceNK here I come.

I use those AVON anew pads which is a light dermabrasion and doesn`t irrate my skin , followed by skinceuticals B5 gel hydration.

Have you used the multivitamin dermalogica mask its perks for face up or the elemis fruit activating mask are two I use so can report good things.

Nichola Joss ( top facialist) recommends a jade roller to enliven the skin you can buy them on ebay.

jeangenie · 12/03/2008 11:10

ooh, thanks for tip off PC!

I use the micro thingummy about twice a week, you shouldn't use two days in a row apparantly - makes skin lovely and soft

have just been looking at battery operated microthingummy thingy on boots now...not sure what that does...

I must get some facemasks and lie in bath tonight with one on...that always helps...boots do a sanctuary one I tried last week was lovely, and it says you can leave on over night for extra uumphiness

(sorry, vocabulary gone to dogs and am at work so can't spend too much time thinking about it )

PatsyCline · 12/03/2008 12:47

OK, have purchased Boots Time Delay Micro-Demabrasion at bargain price and thrown in the anti-saggy night cream and day cream for good measure. If I don't look fantastic by the end of March I'll be gutted!

Also, must book a spa day. I need a few hours of serious relaxation to wipe the years away.

do spa day - also do series of facials if you have money and time - I did a couple of years ago and was utterly fab - skin great (had no kids then though so could have been all the lack of stress and lots of relaxation either!)

smugmumofboys · 12/03/2008 13:04

Do you have an FE college near you? Our local one trains beauty therapists and for only a tenner I have had a fab microdermabrasion facial. It's much cheaper than a salon and the therapist was very competent. My skin already feels and looks better.

bundle · 12/03/2008 13:06

patsy how old are you?

PatsyCline · 12/03/2008 16:40

I am 40, Bundle.

it's just that my skin was terrible last year and gp gave me some gel called rozex for rosacea which worked a treat, after just a few weeks.

i think that women - ahem- of a certain age (I'm 42, days away from 43) apparently sometimes get higher levels of testosterone and the gel certainly did the trick for me wrt getting rid of spotty bits (mainly chin, nose) and red areas.

PatsyCline · 12/03/2008 17:17

Interesting. I have PCOS so my hormones are very out of whack and testosterone is a problem. I'll check it out. Thanks, Bundle.

oooh great, something else to look forward to in this being a woman lark, as if the prospect of the menopause wasn't quite good enough...

PatsyCline · 17/03/2008 17:33

Just an update to say that the Boots el cheapo route (Time Delay microdebrasion kit plus day and night cream) is having really good results so far. My skin looks a lot brighter/younger and feels much softer.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

woo hoo - delighted to hear it

PatsyCline · 17/03/2008 22:16

And the Time Delay stuff rants on about its Japanese technology on the boxes, JG, so I have convinced myself that it must be made by Shisheido (without any proof whatsoever).

MUST be! I got the night serum and night cream myself now (after your half price tip off) does make skin feel super soft and lovely
