Help me find clothes for a photo shoot

Hi,
I’m currently heavily pregnant and we will be having a newborn shoot around Xmas time. We also have two girls who are 5 & 7. This is the one opportunity for us to have professional photos together and I need help for me and my girls.

Preferably something white for the girls and baby will be in a white wrap. My husband is wearing a muted khaki kind of green shirt over a white top so I’m thinking maybe I need a dress of a similar colour. I am terrible at style

someone please help me find outfits before I give birth.

Wear a lovely comfy jumper dress over leggings. Maybe in a beige/brown so that you’re not too matchy but it all ties together.

Leggings?

Leggings?

Of all the things in the entire world the OP could wear?

Hard to say, @Jammydodged, without knowing your budget, clothes size, usual style …

Roughly size 12/14
Not a huge budget as obviously on maternity leave.
I’d prefer some kind of dress.
Not keen on long sleeves

No real suggestions but something In similar tones to your husbands should work. Also depends if the photos will be colour or black & white?

This is my friend's lovely photography business, have a look at the portfolio on Instagram to see some examples of what works instagram.com/kateconstance_photography?igshid=OGQ5ZDc2ODk2ZA==

Plain colours, nothing shiny or sparkly or patterned or with a motif. No bright colours, nothing high fashion which will date.

Personally I would avoid white or any light colours (for anyone) - the temptation is to go for white as a "classic, clean" look, but it isn't great for portrait photography because it's very bright and it's the first thing you see in the photo. Mid or dark neutrals let the actual people/faces stand out, instead of the clothes.

Basically what you need are boring and unnoticeable clothes in dark or darkish neutrals. The clothes that look good in portrait photography are not necessarily the same clothes that you would put on when you want to "look good" at a party or smart occasion. You probably have things already which could work.

Layering looks good: a shirt/jumper/ cardigan over a T shirt, jackets, maybe a scarf.

I think you're right in not going too matchy; this has a tendancy to look naff imo.

Think about your lower half: will there be shots of you sitting on the floor? Go for trousers or dark coloured jeans if so.

I think if the kids are to be in white and your husband in khaki, I would go for an earthy shade too, probably beige. I wouldn’t try and match the khaki as it’ll be close but not quite right and noticeable in photos whereas if you go got complimentary rather than matching, it’ll look much more intentional. Maybe a darker olive green would work too? You don’t want to go too dark of course or you’ll really stand out in the overall ‘look’ with everyone else in v light colours.
A plain, simply cut long sleeve top with well fitting jeans would be my initial suggestion but immediately post baby, this may not be the most practical, in which case perhaps a wrap dress? Forgiving on the tummy but still simple lines.

P.S. I know you don't like long sleeves, but long sleeves will probably look better than short. Otherwise you risk your arms taking up more skin-space than your face in the photo and that isn't a good look. (your arms may be lovely but you would probably prefer the focus to be on your face).
