Dress me to feel sexy again 🙏

Hi,

Basically I'm feeling a bit crap about myself. My hair is looking flat and frizzy no matter what I do to it. My face seems to be heading south and I can't seem to find any clothes to suit my forever awkward shape 😒

I think I'm an inverted triangle. I'm a size 10 with broad shoulders and a high waist. I do have a waist, it's just not where most clothes want it to be! I have long longs and a small bum. Anyway, nothing seems to fit/flatter me. I pretty much live in jeans and black tops.

Tops have to be v neck to balance out my shoulders and trousers have to hit my hips in the exact right place or I get a muffin top or a baggy bum. Dresses and skirts have to be skater or A line or I look too masculine. I'm just a bit sick of the rules, but every time I divert to follow a trend that I like, I realise why I just don't.

I would really like to feel sexy again. Can you help? Would love a few casual pieces but also some lovely going out outfits.

TIA

Oh and I'm 39 and 5ft 8" with pale, cool skin and long dark hair with a frazzled balayage.

Cold shoulder is very sexy without revealing too much

@GettingStuffed yes to the shape, but the colour would wash me out. That's quite a plunge of a neckline 😂

@Dillydollydingdong I've never tried the cold shoulder look. I always assumed it would make my shoulders appear bigger. Maybe not though.

I always feel like women look much younger with darker hair compared to lighter hair: or worse yet: balayage, the ultimate ager. I would definitely get rid of the balayage, and colour my entire hair a natural and lovely shade of dark brown. One that suits your skin tone and eye colour, of course.

Then, I would invest in some nice skincare...doesn't have to be anything expensive! But make sure that you at least get a facial oil or balm so you can give yourself daily face massages. They really help with looking more plump, youthful and uplifted.

As you are an inverted triangle, I think you are right in your assessment of which shapes suit you, so definitely don't steer away from them! I can't wear whatever shapes I want either, that's just how it is. But you can elevate your look by purchasing items you are comfortable with (A-line skirts, for instance) in more luxurious-looking textiles such as silk, satin, cotton, linen, wool, leather (please no faux leather!) and tweed. And in colours that suit you. I would be careful with prints, because they sometimes look cheap...however, stripes, polka dots and Tartan prints are hard to go wrong with if you choose clothing items in nice textiles.

@Draculina I didn't realise balayage was aging! I wonder why 🤔 I would probably prefer to go all over dark, but I find it too harsh for my skin tone. Especially now the aging has started to accelerate.

Yes, you're right, I should just stick to what I know works, but it can be so dull and it gets so much harder with age. I was already limited with styles etc before, but feel like I'm becoming so much more limited now, to the point I just look like I have really boring style.
