Jeans-and-a-nice-top tops?

I've lost my way with what a 'nice top' constitutes! For when you're going out for a casual meal or to a pub. Situations where jeans are fine, but a hoody isn't. And you also don't want to completely freeze!

I'm 42. I'm a size 10 and am getting quite swamped out now by all the comfy oversize type things I've ended up with. I'm slightly alternative rather than smart.
Jeans wise I've got wide leg, mom, high waist, skinny, straight leg... But I mainly wear jogger fit day to day! I do have a black velvet blazer I've had since the first 00s, if that's useful.

I usually shop on vinted but need some ideas of what to hunt out... Helpful pointers appreciated!

@Octopus45 whenever I’ve ordered something from River Island it’s so synthetic that it’s almost always returned.

@Ballsbaill I’m not keen (used to like them) on &other stories either, overpriced and again synthetic.

I like silk when I can get it and years ago had a nice Gap red silk short sleeved top but either it stained or was hard to wash so now I’m put off silk!

i think just wear whatever you feel most comfortable in!!

Not to mention that the OP specifically wouldn't feel (psychologically) comfortable going out for a nice meal wearing a hoody.

I love silk shirts for this, and buy them on Vinted in all sorts of colours and patterns. There are so many different ways to wear them - tucked, untucked, buttoned to varying degrees, with a tie or scarf. Brooch or pin on the collar or cuffs. They go with all kinds of jackets and jumpers.

Literally mum jeans, black heels, your blazer and a vest with a pretty lace trim is enough to be comfortable and easy :)

That’s quite a dated look

I always think a thin black v neck jumper goes with most jeans. It's a bit more dressy than a tshirt

If you want to be warm look at Sezane knitwear. Some of those would look lovely with jeans and smarter than a hoody

To me that sounds like the most everyday of outfits, @Grandmanetty, not an outfit one would chose in any situation where you want to look as if you’ve made a tiny bit of effort.

For more casual outings than ‘silk shirt and velvet jacket’ a fluffy jumper in a gorgeous colour could be an easy choice.

Black long sleeve light knit Massimo Dutti top, a few years old rarely wear it

You can probably find above on eBay/vinted. The latter 3 maybe slightly dated but still wear them.

My choices are usually a "nice top" over a long sleeve fitted black tee-shirt or satin bomber over a vest or t-shirt.
