Which Kibbe type might I be? (pics)

KibbeMe · 10/11/2023 15:49

Pics are from over the past 8 years, and show hair up and loose. I don't have many on my device so pulled from a FB that I no longer use.

These give an idea of my head and body and my features. I am 5'4, short torso and longer legs. Gain weight in hips and belly. I am thin but 'fleshy' meaning my flesh is very soft, not taught.
Have long wavy hair, never coloured, but straightened in some of these. I look a lot younger than I am or want to be, and find dressing now really, really hard, although my face and jaw have slackened a bit over past 2 years. I hate pattern and fuss but utilitarian swamps me. There are mostly dresses for occasions but i prefer trousers or jeans. I actually hate dresses.

Reddit once said I was soft gamine but I really can't stand block shapes or high necks. I thought soft classic but never relate to the styling advice. I am adding face pics as would love to know my essence too. It might help me to navigate the shops. Sick of wasting money and looking like a depressed fairy.
Any thoughts?
(will remove pics soon, i hope that's ok)

I haven't a clue, but laughed out lou at depressed fairy - I'm sorry!! You have lovely hair and a great figure but it's so hard when you feel you've lost your way and don't know how/where to start looking for it again 😳

I also dislike too much fuss/ruffles/busy patterns (especially any whimsical bloody animals), although I like a stripe and don't mind leopard-print, although I'm getting a bit sick of that too. Have you thought about booking a personal shopper season at JL or similar?

DiamandaTheGreat · 10/11/2023 15:55

I think you'd look good in wide-leg trousers and cropped knits, btw, but it's hard to find the former when you're petite without looking swamped.

Purpleavocado · 10/11/2023 15:59

Maybe a Classic? I'm not keen on kibbe personally as we don't all fit in neat little boxes.

KibbeMe · 10/11/2023 16:01

Thanks Grin
True about wide legs, a lot of stuff now has a crotch length that comes down to my mid thighs, so much so that I could chop the legs off and wear them as a skirt! And whilst I am not in the petite category I do buy from this range as sleeves are often too long for me.

Check out truth is beauty blog, she has an additional one called Ethereal which you might be.

KibbeMe · 10/11/2023 16:31

Will do that, thanks.
I am beginning to think I might be soft classic due to a preference for simplification and less pattern. As well as softer, lower necklines. Gamine's seem to have much bolder features than mine.

I was sure ethereal's had very unusual faces, almost alien-esque? I am thinking of anya taylor joy here though. I will have a look into those.

You do look like a gamine to me!

KibbeMe · 10/11/2023 17:03

It's complicated! Current shapes do not seem to suit me, nor the more functional shapes at Seasalt, etc. The high necks and square shapes just seem to swallow my head.

It's all very well classifying oneself, but if you don't feel it, you don't feel it.

You've got to drill down on what you actually enjoy wearing rather than take a prescriptive view.

So not, 'what will suit me'

Rather 'who am I?'.

It's great to play around with both ideas. I'm completely agin the idea that we can categorise ourselves and then pick clothes because of a perceived type.

I'm tall, slim, but broad, my hair is mad and my features are very pronounced. Kibbe has me as a dramatic. I do like drama in clothes, I also like to play around with other looks.

You can always push sleeves up, turn trousers up, pop collars, mess about with proportions, layer in interesting ways, try volume or close-fitting. Just experiment until it makes you feel good.

And even if you subscribe to Kibbe etc there are different looks within each type, so wear the clothes you want to wear and then style them in a way that works best for you.

Have you taken the quiz?

It’s fairly foolproof in that it asks for specific measurements.
You look like a gamine to me just from the pictures but I appreciate there is more to it than just “a look”.
Which type do you gravitate towards/are most excited by? Often it’s there in your gut already.

KibbeMe · 10/11/2023 20:06

Thanks. I wouldn't say I subscribe to any method, am far too haphazard for that, but I do keep purchasing stuff that needs sending back - wrong size, shape, length. Recently had to return some White Stuff cords as the 10 wouldnt fasten up, yet their size 8 jeans swamped me. Two plain FatFace tees were 4 inches to long in the sleeve and the armholes were wonky. I am about to give up! Grin

I like the idea of working out your 'lines', a sort of simplified formula which seems to explain why I prefer tapered trews to flared. I do like a cropped kick flare though.

I love the chunky Toast look, Seasalt, Margaret Howell.
It does not appear to like me. Mostly the colours and super tight necks.

I don't know which I gravitate to really. Mostly the clean, simple lines of soft classic, except I don't like prim or 'groomed' styles.
The high necks and Twiggy-like choices for gamines don't attract me.
I am very soft as opposed to wiry, even when very young and with yrs of yoga.

Flamboyant gamine I’d say which I think allows for much more elegant refined clothing lines closer to the soft classic in some ways.
