Rosalique alternative for reducing redness

MSc² · 09/11/2023 07:45

I've been desperate for something to cover my red face for years, I burn up so easily and it zaps my confidence. I've been using Rosalique for the last few months but I have a cool skin tone so it makes me look yellow, even under foundation.

Does anyone use anything for redness that doesn't make you look yellow?!

Do you know what causes your redness?

mrsjackrussell · 11/11/2023 10:28

Yes do you know what causes the redness? Is it rosacea?
I use IT cosmetics cc cream and find it as good as rosalique. I have rosacea although under control now

If rosacea (sounds likely) you need a prescription to solve. Covering with makeup won’t really help. I think I was prescribed Soolantra - is brilliant.

Nowdays I get my prescription from Skin & Me - arrives monthly in the post, is good value & saves all the faff of remembering to get your repeat prescription.

Thanks all, it isn't rosacea, at least it doesn't look like it. There are no swollen blotches or spots or bumps or anything, and it doesn't last. It's more like extreme flushing. My face flushes blood red. It can happen when I'm warm, feel under pressure, concentrating, speaking on the phone, anything. It lasts up to a few hours at a time. But it's debilitating because it zaps my self confidence to the point where I need to cover it up with make up in order to be able to go to work. Normal foundation doesn't cover it, so I've tried Rosalique underneath and it works to an extent, but makes me look yellow. I've been suffering with this since I was a kid and would love to find something to mask it. It holds me back professionally because I can only consider roles that won't exacerbate it, for example, speaking to a room of people. Any help/tips/recommendations would be gratefully received!

That’s a type or rosacea, isn’t it

evryevrytime · 12/11/2023 13:33

I have this too OP. The thing that really helped me was therapy. CBT to be precise. Once you stop caring about flushing as much, it stops happening as much. Honestly it was life changing for me so I really recommend it.

In the meantime I would suggest Estée Lauder Doublewear for a high coverage foundation, and wearing polo necks and scarves to cover your neck.

stayathomer · 12/11/2023 13:33

It could still be roseacea- mine isn’t bumpy at all? I used to like Vichy dermablend but it is an extremely heavy coverage so sometimes a bit face painty if you aren’t hydrated and primed!!

Chewbecca · 12/11/2023 13:34

I'd still try soolantra, brilliant for my redness.

What you've described sounds like erythematotelangiectatic rosacea to me, which is characterised by extreme flushing. There's a pustular version that involves bumpy skin and spots. I have erythematotelangiectatic rosacea and swear by Dr Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Cream. You only need a tiny bit and the redness disappears.

I had a (free) appointment with these guys who colour matched dermacolour products for me. Life changing.

The products can be obtained via perscription if you GP agrees.

Oh really? All the pictures I've seen of rosacea look bumpy. Thanks all, lots of recommendations to try! Just knowing that it's a thing with a name will help as I know what I'm dealing with!

The bumpy kind is probably what most people know, but our kind – constant redness caused by tiny broken blood vessels – is the most common. I only found out I had it when I went to see GP about a dodgy mole (which thankfully wasn't dodgy). She blithely said, 'Oh, you have rosacea' and I was surprised but it also made sense why I always look like a tomato if I attempt any kind of high impact exercise!

MSc² · 13/11/2023 07:32

Honestly, I had no idea!

Is it worth going to the GP about it?

CBT is an good idea too. I'm in my 40s and it really has impacted my life.

I am the same , just flushing as my skin is really clear and no spots.

Cerave hydrating wash and Cerave PM moisturiser have 80% cured mine.

I don't use SPF as everything aggravates my skin and makes it flare up so I wear a hat and stay in the shade if it's hot.

Get colour matched with Estée Lauder foundation,it's expensive but lasts months. Use it like a concealer and buff into your skin using a brush. It's the only thing that works for me ,Rosalique is awful stuff and even looks yellow in the adverts for it. I looked like a Simpson!!

Lily Lolo Blush Away powder is pretty good too just on its own ,worth trying, don't use it over the foundation though.

The other thing that helps is a small fan in your bag, so when you feel your skin getting hot you can cool down quickly.

Hope some of that helps x

It's definitely worth it, although the only 'cure' is laser treatment that you'd have to pay for privately.

FWIW, an effective skincare regime can make a huge difference. I wash my face in lukewarm water - hot water exacerbates it – using CeraVe ultra-gentle soap-free cleanser, then apply a thin layer of Azeliac Acid (this product is terrific) and once that's sunk in I use this Olay cream (separate ones for day and night) because the active ingredient Niacinamide is known for helping to calm rosacea. Then I add a 50spf sun protection (even in winter) and use the Dr Dr Jart+ Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Cream on top. Yes, it's a heck of a lot but my skin is so much better for it and I am no longer beet red.
