Uniqlo Heattech vs M&S Heatgen

Has anyone tried both? Are they comparable?

I've bought the very thin heattech tops as base layers for years and love them, but this year I prefer some of. the M&S colours/styles. Heatgen says it's Japanese technology so it's perfectly possible they are actually the same fabric!

I'm so cold this year already 🥶

I have both and there is no difference! M&S sizing all to cock tho- I have the same top in different colours that are supposedly the same size and there’s at least an inch difference…

I prefer the M&S ones - tend to have a better range of sizes, and I find fit better for the larger lady.....

Shuttheblinds · 07/11/2023 13:46

I prefer the m&s ones too, they just seem warmer and fit better

BenjaminDisraeli · 07/11/2023 15:37

I have both :)
The Uniqlo one is silky, much thinner and not as warm as M&S, but good in Spring/Autumn.
M&S do different thicknesses. I've got 4 ordinary Heatgen ones that were lifesavers last winter - wore them as a first layer every day. And I've just bought an extra warm, extra thick turtle neck, which I'm saving for when it's really freezing. I'm 12-14 and get the 14 in Heatgen as they're close fitting.

Thanks all! I'm going to give the M&S ones a try 😃 good to know about the sizing too.

I've got variations of both (I've got a very cold work office and WFH space) and don't see much difference. Never thought I would say it but my M&S heatgen body with poppers at the gusset (apologies for using that word) is brilliant when it's really cold due to the full coverage 🤣 and the poppers are really easy to manage and comfortable. I just find it sits better and dresses and jeans feel more comfortable with it on. I buy my M&S heatgen on eBay as they tend to have loads BNWT at discounted price. Might be last season, but I don't really care. I do find that M&S offer more variations in neck style so have some good scoop neck ones that work really well under dresses.

M&S here too. Really soft and comfortable. I find the Uniqlo ones ride up but the M&S stay in place.

Nitgel · 08/11/2023 06:55

Agree with pp, the m and s ones seem longer, they used to do a long line version which was fab but discontinued it.

kitchenhelprequired · 08/11/2023 07:02

Uniqlo do 3 versions of Heattech, the silky one is the thinnest.

KeyboardCrumbsly · 08/11/2023 07:25

I've had several of the Uniqlo ones for at least 10 years! I wear the tops as pyjama tops in the winter or as an extra base layer and they are still going strong! For a while I was buying a couple more each winter till I realised the old ones just weren't wearing out so I stopped 😂

Whealspeed · 08/11/2023 07:39

Can you wear these on their own or are they just an underlayer? I have merino base layers but find I can't fit my clothes on top.

Same. I kept on buying more in the sales each year until I realised that they never seem to wear out and the drawer I keep them in is overflowing!
The M&S ones are just as good in my experience. I've just tended to prefer the Uniqlo colours and styles.

WhereAreWeNow · 08/11/2023 07:54

@Whealspeed I prefer the normal Heattech as a base layer as it's quite thin and clingy but they do some extra warm ones with cotton which are thicker and could be worn as a top.

Happydays321 · 08/11/2023 07:54

I find the M&S ones warmer than uniglo too.

The Uniqlo ones are so thin they're virtually see through so could only wear as an under layer.
The M&S one I have bought as a top and it's lovely and much thicker

blahab · 08/11/2023 07:57

Have both as one year Uniqlo didn't sell any black cami ones. I find they are pretty interchangeable, except the legging/trousers then I find the Uniqlo fits me better but my mum wears the M&S ones as those fit her better.

I will only wear them on their own under dungarees/dungaree dresses as the STREEETCH over my tits does make that area seem a little more, cough, sheer.

KirstenBlest · 18/11/2023 13:42

Both good, but M&S seems better quality.

Might be a good Christmas present.

Niftythrifter · 31/08/2024 21:45

I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to say that if you are a smaller size then look at the kids section for their thermals. I think I bought two of the boys tops in the top age range I think and got two for the same price give or take for one of the ladies thermal tops. Think I might have got some of the thermal leggings too.
