Charity/ vintage shops London

I’m taking teenage DD to see the Chanel exhibition on a Friday in November thanks to a random inset day. She loves charity shop and vintage clothes shopping. Is there somewhere good to go in central/ west London. I was wondering about Notting Hill and portobello rd but wasn’t sure if there much there on a Friday.

I'm not in London and so not sure about distances and transport links but the neighbourhoods I like for charity shopping are:

Kings Rd although even the charity shops are high end and ££. If your daughter is into punk history, the original Vivienne Westwood / Malcolm McLaren shop is still there.

Pimlico - at least one of the charity shops is vintage although I can't remember which one (might be Fara)

Marylebone High St

Of those three, I'd say Pimlico is probably the most popular with young people.

For vintage, there are loads around Brick Lane / Spitalfields - my son likes it there but it's not central (although it's not far from Liverpool St if there's a direct line).

There are a couple of charity shops around Kensington High St close to the V&A although I can't remember where exactly.

If your daughter's interested in fashion history, the permanent costume collection at the V&A is well worth seeing too.

Enjoy.

Brick Lane is my dds favourite - many carefully curated vintage shops! But not exactly central.

Portobello Road fashion market isn’t great anyone but the area does have a fashion market on Fridays which is or was good. Under the arches near the flyover.

As pp says Pimlico has charity shops but also did have a vintage shop or two.

Plus you’re round the corner from Tate Britain.

If you're travelling through Kings Cross, take a little while to walk from the station, over the canal, and check out the 'Shelter' charity shop in CoalDrops Yard - it's only quite small but the staff are wonderful and they stock interesting stuff and they keep a hold of anything designer that comes in.

There's also a fairly large vintage clothing store on the other side of the same mezzanine level.

Thank you for all the advice, we did the charity shops of Portobello Rd and Elgin Cres, DD got a few pieces she’s really pleased with. Definitely a better quality selection than the local ones. Not an absolute bargain, but definitely cheap, and comparable to the cheaper end of Vinted. Thanks again for the recommendations.

PS the rest of Portobello Rd felt like a tourist trap and not worth visiting
