I want to build up a nice wardrobe as have been living in leggings and t shirts for years. I’m looking for good quality that will last, mid range prices, mainly casual but stylish clothes with a couple of nicer outfits for going out. I’m early 40s, size 14 and 5ft2. Where do you recommend? Thanks!

I love both Seasalt and Sahara but none of their shapes or colours suit me! There are some lovely velvet trousers at Sahara right now that I would love to wear (slightly cropped, elegantly swishy).

I really wanted a slouchy grandad style cashmere cardigan, with v neck buttoning. The only place I could locate the exact style was for £675 at Johnstons of Elgin. What the heck happened to the decent quality middle ground? Everything else is 'wool blend' or short and square, or pocketless...

I don't even rate Wrap anymore, everything is now trendy, puff sleeved and elasticated. They used to be so good. I think a lot of previously well thought out 'mid range' brands threw themselves into the mainstream effort to focus on quantity over quality. I suppose in a competitive market they fear going under.

I love Varley, especially the Vine sweatshirts. I haven't bought any yet, as i need to wrap my head around the cost.
I'm happy to pay that for Cashmere, but haven't yet for sweatshirts.

Seasalt, Mango, Tesco

Seasalt, I'm quite tall (5'10) and they do dresses, coats and trousers in longer length but not really tall like some Next and LTS. Everything seems to wash well and they have a lot of cotton clothes.

i also like Fatface for jeans and trousers in the longer length

I've been buying a number of things from here thisisunfolded.com/. I like the fact it's ethical and sustainable, plus having a very small range suits me. I'm lucky because I live in Edinburgh so can try on when they have pop up shops.

I've also been buying some tops from Kettlewell, quality is good but only really works if you know what colours suit you.

@SoupDragon

Thanks for that info Soupdragon. I never thought I would fit the clothes but they seem to go up to XXL, plus not all Viscose (spawn of the devil). A bit pricy perhaps but I am starting to pay more for quality (which I hope this is) and like the poster you replied to, I hate being guillotined!

i like Massimo Dutti but they cater for tall people, same as Cos - although I agree with PP - I don’t find Cos that appealling 🤣
