Boots for walking around town

Gwenhwyfar · 03/11/2023 12:32

Hi everyone
I have some nice-looking chelsey boots I can wear with trousers and skirts BUT even with the Pavers insoles they're not comfortable enough to be walking around so I'm looking for boots for walking to work and walking around for hours shopping, but not 'walking boots' if you see what I mean. Something along the lines of the Sketchers I use in the summer, but for the winter.

TIA for any suggestions.

My Clarkes boots are really comfy. I think they are the Orinoco style.

Gwenhwyfar · 03/11/2023 13:31

Thanks. I don't really like having to tie laces all the time, but I'll consider them.
I'm ideally looking for something with some bounce in it to protect me from the street.

Clarkes have comfy Chelsea boots too with no laces.

KirstenBlest · 03/11/2023 13:49

Shoes with laces are usually more comfortable. I'd either go for a leather trainer-style shoe, or an ankle boot that sits low on the ankle. Sorel boots are usually comfortable. Other brands you might like are Barbour, Seibel, Gabor, Solovair.

Thanks Kirsten. Those are called 'walking boots' though and proper walking boots are often really heave because they're made for walking in the forest or whatever. Are those ones lighter?

Thanks. I actually saw there were quite a few different Orinoko ones so it seems quite complicated.

Walking boots are actually quite light, because you walk so far in them. But they’re not usually the most stylish for wearing to go shopping or whatever.

I recently bought some Western boots from Ariat, which I have worn a lot and are really comfy. They seem to be quite waterproof but they don’t have good grip, so I do need to be a bit careful of stepping on a metal manhole cover if it’s raining.

I love them, but they are a specific “lewk”. 😀

FitFlop make Chelsea boots. All their stuff is like walking on a cloud

KirstenBlest · 03/11/2023 15:57

Sorel boots aren't heavy. I wouldn't wear them if they were uncomfortable or heavy and I wouldn't be recommending them.

I haven't got those. I have some fur lined ones that look more like hiking boots.

ChocoChocoLatte · 03/11/2023 17:04

Fit flops! I have their sandals and trainers and am eyeing up their boots for winter.....

Blinkityblonk · 03/11/2023 17:42

The brand I like is called Aveleigh and they are also by Clarks but are soft/have fluffy stuff inside, so are comfier than their other types. I have the ankle boots, you can get longer ones, different styles, but all are fantastically comfy and you can tramp in them for hours. My 20-year-old dd also has stolen one of my pairs so they can't be that embarrassing. I got mine on Amazon or somewhere, I don't think they are currently sold by Clarks. I go up a size rather than down in these.

I have these in tan and in black, they also do chelsea style boots and longer boots, they are technically snow boots but not overly warm, but they are waterproof and you can tramp in them for hours with lovely warm dry feet!

I've got a pair and they're really heavy. I presume because of the grips underneath.

Thanks everyone. I'll have a look at Aveleigh and Fit Flops.

Moshulu. I swear I’ll never buy boots from anywhere else again. I started by buying their slippers, but it turns out their boots are just as comfortable

Gwenhwyfar · 09/11/2023 19:38

Anyone tried Picolinos? The brands you mention would mean buying online whereas I can try Picolino's in shops near me. I'm not that impressed with the choice. The 'classic' boots of the type that you can normally wear with dresses have too much of a heel and the other ones have laces so I'm not sure would go with skirts/dresses, but they seem to be quite comfortable and have a good reputation.

I have some Pikolinos. Leather Shoes & Accessories | Pikolinos Official Online Store
Mine are not boots. Quality is good.

mdinbc · 09/11/2023 21:06

I went on the piccolino site, and they've got lots of nice boots with smaller heels.

I also recommend Blundstone's; they are practically worn as uniform here on Canada west coast.

Yes, but the point is that I want to try them on first so I'm limited to what I can find in the shops.

Have you looked on Zalando? Some good brands on there including Tamaris which are really comfortable. Josef Seibel also comfortable with some smart styles.

Skechers do boots. As you like those for summer what about their boots?
https://www.skechers.co.uk/search/?q=boots

All the ones on that page are ugly though aren't they? That's my problem.
In the summer I wear their slipons that are quite subtle.

Not complicated at all.

Orinoco 2 have laces for effect but they zip up on the inside. No lacing required.
