Anyone interested in defining/finding their style in three words

I looked for a thread on this but couldn't find one, so thought I'd start one:

It was a thing on TikTok during lockdown, but obvs I'm way behind the times ( should retro be one of my words?!)

It's essentially choosing three adjectives to describe your current style or the style you aspire to. You then use the words to help choose outfits from your wardrobe and new things. A US stylist Allison Bornstein popularised it- she said choose one word for your baseline style, one aspirational and one emotional.

Eg
Rachel Green: Sleek, Fitted, Sporty
Phoebe Buffay: Bohemian, Crafty, Practical
Monica Gellar: Minimal, Casual, Classic

She says her style is Classic, Elegant, Seventies.

This is how it works:

Apparently you have to go through your wardrobe and pick the things you wear every day and what you like about them- or the outfits on which you feel and the most 'you'.

If you prefer to look less polished and more relaxed then undone, casual, relaxed could be words.

Anyway- loads of words in the pic-

Sorry for the long droning on!!!

I'm mulling, I try to look fitted, polished and nearly always wear something simple like a fitted black t, slim black roll neck on the top with straight jeans, leather A line skirt. So thought sleek, polished, classic.

But I also like vintage frock coats, velvet riding jackets and asymmetric dresses/skirts from Westwood and shirts with big cuffs- so wondered about gothic, Victorian, steampunk, edgy???

I do also wear lots of maxi/ midi dresses though- where do they fit. They're not voluminous, tiered or frilled?

What are yours?

I’ll be honest mine aren’t on that list

I’m comfy, dark, practical lol

anon2022anon · 03/11/2023 08:57

I think mine would be fitted, playful, vivid.

I don't always wear it, but my style is represented by fitted shapes, a kitsch print, pops of colour- I toyed with colourful instead of vivid, but that brings to mind more dopamine dressing style to me, where I'm more likely to have one item on that stands out more. An outfit that sums me up most is probably a fitted, cropped wide leg jumpsuit with a print that's tigers (not animal print, actual tigers) or something else quite unexpected, or a bright coloured/ stripe fit and flare dress.

I think I'm Sleek, Gothic, Classic but don't know where the midi maxi dresses fit! Is that just being a slave to fashion.

Yours sound good! The word list was just a random page I chose, you can choose any word.

I love these! I think I can picture what you wear.

I'm hoping that seeing other people's words will help me define mine - style word copycat? Sheep?

I don’t think I can do it in three words. It’s sort of librarian, meets Miss Marple via Withnail and dr marten 😂

cathyandclaire · 03/11/2023 09:49

Academic, edgy, and ummmmm... cottagecore?!?!

I'd like mine to be Comfort - Edgy - Simplicity but I suspect I'm more Unflattering - Try-hard - Boring 😳

Casual
Tight
Flattering

Boska23 · 03/11/2023 10:40

What I try to go for is Sophisticated-Polished-Edgy but I probably just look Boring-Neutral-Messy.
