Hello! Can you tell me what is the type of coats that these female characters in the images are wearing? Are these coats found only in Japan? The coats seem soft and light.

The first one looks like a kimono, the last one more like a blazer. You can't really see enough of the middle two, they could be kimonos or maybe cardigans?

Have you looked at One Hundred Stars? onehundredstars.co.uk/collections/duster-coats/products/antiqu_chintz-velvet-boyfriend-jacket

They have various jackets , kimonos and throw overs - all soft and unstructured and gorgeous (and £££)

Umm, they're animations. They're not actually real items of clothing...

milkysmum · 02/11/2023 16:47

They are cartoon drawings, and even if you click on them you really can't see much of the jackets.

Hmm
Cocolapew · 02/11/2023 17:01

They're pretend 🤨

PattyDuckface · 02/11/2023 17:15

They're called "pixelated madeup ladies swathe jacketinis" and can be found in all bad internet forums.

Terfosaurus · 02/11/2023 17:17

They look like manga style drawings of kimonos, cardigans and blazers.

LostInClothes · 02/11/2023 17:33

I have seen floaty open cardigans similar to these on etsy, usually in linen. I have something similar for summer with slightly flared sleeves, it's quite beautiful.

JaneJeffer · 02/11/2023 18:57

They'll catch their death

Lovethatforyouhun · 02/11/2023 19:28

Oh dear, are you a cos playing?

SparklyLeprechaun · 02/11/2023 20:11

The first one looks like a haori, the others are just unstructured blazers.

erlangshen · 02/11/2023 20:41

Its called "beizi", its a type traditional Chinese clothing which can.be found in many dynasties. They can be long or short, some are thicker some are thin.

In Japan, every woman had a soft, unstructured, unlined coat when i visited. They called them duster coats over there. I bought one but lost it on a train. Impossible to find over here.

Don;t know if Temu is trustworthy but this sort of thing

I got a couple of Japanese style (maybe Chinese?) coats like the ones you describe from this seller on Etsy https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/939113549/new-arrival-jacquard-spring-winter-linen?ref=yr_purchases.
Great quality, good price and I love them both.

FemaleFace76 · 02/11/2023 23:49

They represent real items of clothing.

Kimono and yukata have wide sleeves and have a crossover front opening - they don't hang loose at the front. Westernised versions might be different.

PPs suggestions of duster coat and beizi seem more promising - there are a lot on Etsy. Also try searching for hanfu, although they seem to have wide sleeves.

Linen won't give you the floaty look for long because it crumples so easily. A double gauze fabric might be better.

Cos play is actually a good suggestion. Even if these types of clothes aren't mainstream, they're probably being produced for cos play or for people who like the manga aesthetic. So worth exploring that area.
