Are these high or mid rise?

I have come to a point where I don't trust online representation of clothes. Each item often looks completely different in a range of colours, and many very high rise jeans/trousers are described as 'low'!

I have purchased mid rise (my preferred fit) a few times in the past year only to discover they are 2+ inches over my belly button once on. I don't have unusual proportions.

This example from Joules described as mid rise - I have been searching for some black, tapered cords for bloody ever, pref with a mid rise, so I was eager to purchase them, until I saw them in brown, which look like a completely different (and much poorer) fit to the black ones! Just wtf??
I don't have much time for Joules as it is, and often found their jeans to be a bad fit, so it doesn't bode well really does it? Most other tapered cords online are so high in the rise they would double as a bra on me.

What do you think? (rise comparison of same cords), the brown ones seem to have much more loose fabric and look quite high in the rise than the black.

These trousers I liked at John Lewis, also described as Mid rise are clearly not!
I wonder what standards they are judging them from because if the crotch drops any lower it's Hammer time.

I think the black ones are mid and the brown cords high. Mind you the pinstripe ones are definitely high

I feel you! I hate high rise trousers but am having a difficult time avoiding them.

Hard to imagine why the websites give false information though. I mean why bother?

I think the problem is that the terms 'high/low rise' can mean different things to different people, largely depending on where your waist sits.

My waist, for example, is a good couple of inches above my belly button, (not that far below my boobs). So to me, the brown Joules trousers do look like a mid rise. I agree the black ones look lower - I find anything much lower than that feels uncomfortable..

I don't go by the high/low descriptor any more, I look at the size chart, which should give the measurements for the length/height of the rise.

Missed your comment Flo, apologies. You sound like me, proportionally, and I agree. Sadly a lot of brands don't list the crotch measurements.
For Joules to put two completely different looking trousers as the 'same' product puts me off ordering altogether, so might leave it until I see them in a store. You just get the impression quality control is a bit whakadoo.
The black ones do look perfect for me so it's a shame.

They have done it again here (Joules).
The exact same jeans pictured, one has a mid rise the other very high. I have no idea how they are doing business online.

How could anyone think these were the same cut of jeans???
