Fringe inspiration

I’m getting a fringe cut in, but can’t decide what style to go for.

I’m 40 odd with long, dark brown hair that is dead straight and fairly thick, although I’m thinning a bit around the temples and front hairline. I’d like to cut in a fringe that starts a bit further back to disguise this, but clueless about what style to go for.

In years gone by I’ve had a full fringe and a side fringe. My teen DD says ‘curtain bangs’ are more stylish these days. Any ideas of what might suit?

I have a heart shaped face.

I look a bit like a less botoxed Danni Minogue, for reference Grin.

Yes I went for Kate Middleton bangs. I took this photo.

My face is a bit oblong.

Kate’s hair is lovely, but I don’t know if that sort of fringe will look the same with very straight hair? Will I just look like I’ve got too-short front layers?

I give myself a bouncy/ish blow dry regularly, but I can’t be arsed faffing to get waves.

Eek. Why are fringes so scary? Grin

I thought you meant you were the photographer who took the photo 😂

I recently got curtain bangs as well though shorter than Kate's. Mine start just below the eyebrow. I have a straight bob just above shoulder length. Love them, they take years off me!

I blow-dry straight. There is a knack to the fringe, if you blow-dry it up with lots of volume then run straighteners while holding it up and pulling it back it sort of flops down in that windswept way. My hair is thick with natural wave though. I think with dark hair it can soften and frame the face, but maybe look for someone less wavy examples online.

Haha yes I see how it sounds like the photo was taken by me! I meant I showed it to the hairdresser.

FWIW I don't love the bulk of Kate's hair, it is rather heavy and blunt, mine is more layered to reduce the thickness.

I think this is quite a good entry level fringe, the way my hairdresser cut mine was that it was a no parting fringe. It could be worn to the left or right if I wanted too, not just with a central curtain drop! That gives me a little safety if I fancy a change!
