Anyone successfully tackled hair dyed too dark?

Please help.

I aked my hairdresser to dye over my lovely golden caramel balayage as I felt like my hair had had enough of bleach. I have naturally very dark hair and left the hairdresser happy that she'd dyed it back to my natural colour. Irl it looks unnaturally black, like Wednesday's hair! I look incredibly washed out.

What on earth do I do? If this has happened to you, has it faded? I don't want to wash it with anything harsh because the whole point of going dark was to work on improving the condition of it.

Head and shoulders will slowly tone down dark hair after a few washes

Jamaisy82 · 26/10/2023 21:56

I bought a box of that colour remover it's worked each time for me.

slowcookspagbol · 26/10/2023 21:58

This happened to me, it took me a lot of guts but i called back and said i was not happy they then worked on it gently and re toned and i was a lot happier and it was a lot lighter, i shampooed about 10 times in a row with head and shoulders and a detox, tried all sorts and then called

@slowcookspagbol what colour did it end up after they worked on it?

@Jamaisy82 what colour remover did you use and what colour did it start and end up? Mines really quite back so I'm scared it would go ginger/brass if I used a remover

I had something very similar. Got fed up of balayage so wanted to go back to my very dark brown hair.

I ended up with unnaturally black hair.

Like PP, I used colour remover, and that got my colour to exactly what I wanted / my natural colour, with the balayage looking natural too.

Just call them and explain. They will help I’m sure. It’s very common that hair is too dark for the face.
just watch Tom Hiddleston in Loki, and that’s a top film hairdresser person!

Leafytrees · 26/10/2023 22:12

@Whatsgoingon12345 I just googled and that made me chuckle. Mine's also not that bad so it's made me feel a bit better!

@AgaMM what remover did you use? Just had a look at what's available via prime but don't want to end up accidentally dying it green or something

Call the salon and explain you are not happy. I’m not a hairdresser but I have one as a client for social media/marketing and they would FAR rather you went back and got it sorted! Those colour strippers will turn your hair a brassy ginger colour, smell awful, and will also leave your hair like straw (voice of bitter experience).

hobbledyhoy · 26/10/2023 22:58

Clarifying shampoo, great at stripping colour. If you're in a pickle and really want to strip it quick (and I don't recommend this but worked for me with a toner incident) fairy liquid

Just to add that didn’t happen to me. My hair was completely fine after I used it and back to my natural colour. May depend on which one you use, but I had no issues.

@slowcookspagbol what colour did it end up after they worked on it?

It ended up a rich brown from being a block black really I was so unhappy and then it sorted it out fine

IDoNotMoisturise · 27/10/2023 11:14

I would just give it time, it always fades and will look ok in a couple of weeks, washing it every day

Uniquuue · 27/10/2023 13:42

The colour stripper liner worked for me too. My hair looked back to normal and didn't go orange at all.
