Extremely greasy hair.

I’ve had extreme greasy hair since puberty (25 year ago) I’ve tried all the tricks of the book. I can assure you not washing my hair often does not help. I’ve used sulphate free shampoo, changed diet, massaged scalp while washing. Tried so many shampoos. I did in the last 10 year find dry shampoo and it was life changing for me (honestly I’m not being dramatic. However, I’m now pretty sure it’s causing hair loss.

Can anyone recommend something they’ve tried and tested that will mean I’m not washing my hair sometimes twice a day - should I be socialising.

Any help appreciated. Just please please do not suggest trying to space the washes out. I have 25 years of experimentation with that and it does not work for me.

Thank you ❤️

Try 1) washing face neck and behind the ears properly and 2) drinking lots of water.

I found once my skin was properly hydrated from within, I stopped producing so much oil. Really helped.

Kerastase Specifique is really the only shampoo that keeps my hait cleaner a little longer.
But have you tried hair oil on your scalp? I have oily skin as well and it was just getting worse and worse when I used oil control products. Dried out and started producing more oil to compensate. When I started using facial oils, it stopped being so oily. So figured hair could be the same, and indeed it seems to work. Just hair oils though, not serums or silicones.

Thank you @WeightWhat i probably don’t drink enough water but religiously. I’ll try and keep up with that and hopefully see a difference.

Thanks @Orangello , I have heard this about oil for oily skin/hair and just had the fear to implement.
I’ll definitely try it. Alongside Kerastase 🙂

Have your tried the bicarb and cidar vinegar method?…
probably not sustainable for long term, but there’s lots out there on how to do it with less faff

Body shop tea tree conditioner works for me

Change your pillow case very regular and always blow dry your hair

Revolution Salicyclic shampoo is the best I’ve found so far. About £9 but usually on offer somewhere.

I apply dry shampoo as soon as my hair is blow dried,I don’t wait for the oil. Also I find that the volume ones are much more effective and you need far less than the usual ones. They’re pretty sandy but work so much better

Nope shampoo bar makes some pretty strong claims, haven’t tried it myself though.

I work in the countryside and the only shampoo that gets the smell of chainsaw oil out of my hair ( or any other outdoor smell including farms) is Vosene medicated shampoo, my hair isn’t overly greasy but it does get dirty, I wash it twice with the vosene and my hair squeaks after washing it so then I know it’s clean then I put conditioner just in the ends ( never put it on your scalp as this makes it greasy)

Nizoral ketoconazole shampoo may help (not the daily wash, the proper medicated one). Could be fungal even though you might not have typical dandruff.

You could also try the other treatments for dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis if you haven’t tried these already?

Try African Black Soap, from a local African/ Caribbean grocery shop ( Not Paks et al.).

It costs under £5 and is a soap bar. There are raves about it for greasy hair, whereas I am familiar with it for spotty skin as an exfoliator.

One brand is Dudu Osun, but there are others.

Hope that works, it is a picture of the brand I am familiar with.

Fairy washing up liquid. No conditioner afterwards. Once a week. Kind to scalp.

Really lather it up and massage scalp. Rinse thoroughly.

I rinse my hair in cold water all throughout the year and it's very shiny and no split ends.
