I was somewhere this week where I was able to have a good look around OB- a small-medium sized branch.

I was distinctly underwhelmed. It looked like expensive tat. All the home stuff looked cheap and nasty and the clothes are synthetic 'brights'.

I know they are expanding their stores but I can't see what their identity is.

I agree with you. It's very over priced, badly made polyester tat. The plastic handbags are awful.

Colinswheels · 26/10/2023 13:23

I used to love OB but haven't bought anything from there for a while. The last couple of times I have been in I was underwhelmed too - agree that everything was very bright. Shame as they have finally opened a proper branch in my closest city.

YellowFrogs · 27/10/2023 14:38

Agree it is very bad quality and overpriced for what it is. Often nice styles but I've learnt to resist or only buy sale.

LadyBird1973 · 27/10/2023 15:35

I think they have some pretty things and it's well displayed, but it is so so expensive for what it is.

thedevilinablackdress · 27/10/2023 17:01

Was in the new huge store in my local city. Pleased to see new/expanding retailers, but the quality was shocking. Fabric you could spit peas through, raw cut hems (not in an edgy-AllSaints way), weirdly mushy knitwear.

MadeOfAllWork · 27/10/2023 17:02

I was excited to go into one for the first time yesterday. Singularly underwhelmed.

Helenahandkart · 27/10/2023 17:25

Given that the only clothes available on the rest of the high street are depressing grey or black leggings, I’m really happy that OB caters for those of us that like a splash of colour in our lives.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/10/2023 17:29

I bought a fab cardi/zip up knit in there last month, and was delighted. Went to wear it out, and discovered I had paid almost £70 for acrylic. So disappointing! I returned it on the basis that I could get a wool jumper from Cos or Arket for the same money.

cuthbertthecat · 27/10/2023 17:29

I still have a pendant I got in OB over 20 years ago (the one at the back of Ludgate Hill City of London fans).

I like the colour but the quality seems poor for the cost and I find the sizing a bit odd. I'm at the top of their size range and struggled to do up a top (and my weight is waist and below so that's unusual in itself) then found myself swamped by a dress.

I do like the jewellery still though.

sparklefresh · 27/10/2023 17:29

I like it. Is it all greige linen Toast-style sacks? No. But it's fun and different.

They use to be one of my go to shops but now the quality is appalling and their website doesn’t appeal at all. Some of the items are very odd!

I love the vibrancy of OB. I agree some of the fashion is a bit meh but i love the homewares . I'm not interested in whether something is expensive for what it is , if you don't like the prices walk away . A branch has opened in my home city and it's one of the busiest shops . It also has some lovely stocking filler bits right now.

PictureOfFlorianTray · 27/10/2023 18:00

It's a bit 'Emperors's New Clothes.'
Or ... how to sell shite for lots of money to gullible people.

A branch opened in a town where my mum lives. Hardly anyone in there , ever,.
Ventured in when it opened and just couldn't get my head around what they were charging for stuff that just didn't look appealing or seemed badly made.
Mum wanted a new handbag so I thought I'd pop in to get something special for her. All the bags looked as good quality as you'd find on a market stall.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 27/10/2023 18:00

I tend to go there for sales but I’ve got a green jumper and green heart pendant I got from there this year which I like - worn both lots.

Also got pewter grey ankle boots which don’t flare up my plantar fasciitis and a lovely cream/ivory black and gold striped cardigan in sale this year.

I actually think the jewellery has increased in price and I never liked their homeware anyway. I did once buy my DM a planets print in there.

PrinceHaz · 27/10/2023 18:09

I like it a lot, the reason bring that I suit tropical, bright colours - been colour analysed as a true spring.
I cannot find my colours anywhere, particularly in Autumn so just glad to have the chance to try on clothes that might look ok on me.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/10/2023 18:09

The clothes sometimes look nice, but the fabrics are often poor.

They vases are lovely and make nice gifts. I really like their tiny photo frames with ribbons to hang them.

BHRK · 27/10/2023 18:20

All my stuff from there has washed surprisingly well. I’m willing to buy synthetic fabrics in exchange for the great range of colours

rc22 · 27/10/2023 20:17

One recently opened in my nearest town. I got a lovely top in the sale but would never have paid full price for it. I think it may also be handy to pick up gifts for people when I don't really know what to buy!! Also, the staff are very friendly.

LadyBird1973 · 27/10/2023 20:18

I had a lovely blue top that developed holes after a few months. It wasn't cheap either!

Supersimkin2 · 27/10/2023 20:21

Excellent Xmas decs.

Nothing else lasts.

Loopytiles · 27/10/2023 20:24

The ones at London stations I go through have no changing room, which pisses me off enough not to shop there.

Ireolu · 27/10/2023 20:25

Bed spreads r worth it in the sale.

Parakeetamol · 27/10/2023 20:27

I wander around the one in the train station a few times a week but never buy anything as it all seems too long and too expensive for what it is.

Mumteedum · 27/10/2023 20:28

I'm surprised by these comments. I've picked up a few skirts and a couple of tops in sales. I wouldn't have paid full price but think their quality is really good. And I love a bit of colour and quirk!

scrivette · 27/10/2023 20:39

I have a couple of their small cross body bags and have been very pleased with them. Lots of their home ware items seem rather overpriced though.
