Alternative to usual formal dress for black tie event?

Would these be formal enough for a black tie event?
I love the idea of wearing them with a simple fitted black top and heals but then think the usual formal evening dress is probably better despite the fact I'm likely to wear the trousers again more over Christmas.

That said I can't find a dress I like Blush

i think it depends on the context of the event - where is it being held? Is it a formal dinner in an exclusive venue or more a party type event in a club?

Cyclingmummy1 · 25/10/2023 09:18

I tried them on and they were awful. Not long enough for me.

keely79 · 25/10/2023 09:21

How about a flowy wide leg jumpsuit. Feels more formal to me but maybe more able to dress up and down than full dress?

PuttingDownRoots · 25/10/2023 09:21

Depends on the dress code. Wouldn't be ok at the ones I attend (unless there was a specific reason for trousers eg crutches)

Who are these black tie clothing police?

I think they’re great, and your proposed outfit would be fine for Christmas party season black tie events

StasisMom · 25/10/2023 11:33

I think so. That said, I tried them on and they bunched my middle up to give me a very unpleasant muffin top, they didn't seem to know where to sit.

StasisMom · 25/10/2023 11:35

PS I think as in the photo, they would look lovely with a cream silk or satin shirt, plus gold jewellery and shoes.

Spareus · 25/10/2023 11:58

Definitely!

KirstenBlest · 25/10/2023 13:27

@MontagueLeo , 'black tie' means you should wear something formal.

@HermioneRuby1 , those trousers don't even look nice on the model.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 25/10/2023 13:30

How formal is the black tie?

All the gents in tux with bow ties - then these aren’t formal enough.

Mix of tuxes with lounge suits then these are fine (so long as they fit you well given the previous comments).

People who I suspect don't actually attend black tie events, particularly industry related black tie events.

Mosaic123 · 25/10/2023 15:37

I think they are lovely. Maybe some kind of plain sleeveless top in a nice colour? Dark green? And a matching jacket?

Deoends on the industry... the ones I attend are very traditional. Its only be relatively recently that shawls haven't been required and mobile phones allowed to be seen!

They don't look like they'd be very forgiving to wear - but you may not need them to be 😃.

I could see them at a Christmas do. Personally I don't think they're formal enough for what I think of as black tie.

waltzingparrot · 25/10/2023 19:42

I saw those trousers today in M&S. They look and feel gorgeous. I think they'd look 'super smart black tie' with a beautiful black top.
