Wise people, what should my 17 Yr old wear for work experience?

DD has managed to get a week of hospital work experience lined up. All good! Dress code guidance is no denim, no long sleeves.
She's a jeans-and-hoodies type of kid, and I'm a jeans-and-hoodies type of adult. Help us!

Short sleeve or three quarter length sleeve shitt dresses

Lastminutebride · 24/10/2023 19:20

What type of work experience. Will it be clinical or admin? I’m guessing clinical areas if no long sleeves.
smart, practical and comfy. Nothing tight or revealing. Can’t go wrong with smart plain trousers and a top with flat comfy shoes

Biscuitsandgravyforyou · 24/10/2023 19:21

If she’s going to be ward based then black smart trousers, enclosed flat shoes and a short sleeved blouse/shirt/smart top. Nothing revealing.

Thanks all. Yes, ward-based clinical work experience. I was thinking black trousers and a top. We will have to go shopping, she just doesn't have anything other than comfy casual stuff!

Do you reckon smartish black Vans are ok? Don't especially want to have to fork out for smart (uncomfortable!) shoes...

All the ward based admin at the trust I worked at wore smart trousers and Skecher trainers, but that's because a LOT of walking was required around the hospital.
A short sleeved blouse was provided as part of our uniform, as there is a 'bare below the elbow' policy in the NHS.
Also no watches, rings with stones, false nails/nail polish.
if your DD has long hair, make sure she has hair ties/claw clips as they may ask her to tie her hair up.
Hope she enjoys her work experience!

Black trousers and short sleeved tops. Asda had suitable ones for £7 recently

Twoshoesnewshoes · 24/10/2023 21:07

Clean smart vans will be fine, I and most of my staff wore trainers (non uniform therapists on wards).
id suggest some smart- ish black trousers, wide leg is fine, new black jeans also fine.
then as pp suggested, short sleeve tops (not t shirts), no logo but stripes etc all good.
see if you can find or borrow a short sleeve cardigan too.

Have you seen what hospital staff wear on their feet these days!! I’d go in a newish pair of black trainers or Vans. As long as they’re clean!

thewalrus · 24/10/2023 21:22

Very reassured about the shoes - thank you! Happily I haven't had to go in a hospital for years, but I can definitely imagine that comfortable footwear is important. DH (who is NHS admin) did say the same, but he is scruffy and unobservant (though otherwise lovely!), so I didn't want to take his word for it.

Vans, black trousers and short sleeved tops it is. I'm liking the suggestion of Asda!

black school trousers, adjustable waist sort, honestly, they'd be perfect.

Not t-shirt but a blousy type shirt, something synthetic should work.
