Holiday Dress for France next week

Off to France for half term. Down south so it will be warmer but not hot. Think it might rain too. We’re near a beach so it’s a relaxed vibe rather than city break.
All the dresses that fit me are sensible teacher ones that require nice thick tights or white thin beach dresses for hot summer sun.

What style would work well for this time of year please? I’m a fat 14, straight up and down and 5ft 4.

I am going to the shops first thing tomorrow ( also run out of deodorant.contact lens fluid and my only black bra has the wire sticking out tonight).Grrr.

I was in Cyprus in July and Mostly wore this of an evening when it was around 20 degrees. I never froze or got too hot wearing it

This is late-October not July, in the South of France not Cyprus.

I would strongly advise against dressing up like that in any of the popular towns around here such as Monaco, Nice, Cannes, or St Tropez. You will probably be mistaken for an Eastern European prostitute, dressed in a tiny sequin dress with straps on an evening out in this part of the world at the end of October.

In the Languedoc region down South close to Spain and can also confirm that it's cold! I'm in leggings, boots and a jumper now and have been spending evenings in my fleece pyjamas, or wrapped up in coats when I've been out. Definitely not floaty dress weather, unless the sun comes out. I'd say bring a beautiful floaty dress as you'd like to, but wear thicker tights underneath and bring a jumper :)

I think SYL has been advocating these spangly monstrosities on just about every thread they respond to on this board, appropriateness be damned. 🤷‍♀️

@CoteDAzur I think you may have fallen for a wind up!

Assuming this is for the evening? During the day you’ll just be in jeans no?

Brexile · 23/10/2023 20:30

I like the spangly dress, but the question is whether it will go with the thick tights and chunky jumper you're going to need! I don't think the weather's nice anywhere in France this week.
