To just grow out grey hair?

Hi

Been dying my hair blonde since I was about 16, more recently have returned to box dye all over tint as I stopped being about to afford foil highlights at the salon. My roots are coming through now with quite a few grey streaks. My hair is naturally mousey blonde and currently quite long and layered. Planning on having it cut into a shoulder length layered bob. But the main thing is that I’m so tired of colouring it at home and think it’s time to embrace the grey. I’m 52. I don’t think I can afford or be bothered to have foil highlights put it to soften the demarcation line so I guess it’s going to look odd and obvious that I’m growing out the colour for a while. I’ve tried growing it out before but always ended up giving in dying it. Any tips? Anyone else done this and been glad they did?

I think the thing is we all have to wait and see what nature gives us as not all grey hair looks great . I love the steel silver grey but doubtful if I would get that as like my father - very dark and only few grey hairs. The grey I have if I don't get done looks manky. I am late 60s.

I started going grey when I was about 19. I’m now 40. I started growing it out at 37 after I got sick of the cycle of dying it and it looking crap again after less than 2 weeks. Does it make me look older, maybe, I dunno. I get loads of comments on it, people always ask me how I get my hair this colour, I have people come up to me in the street unprompted to compliment me on it (when it’s done, not when it’s ragged up in a messy bun 🤣).

Your hair is stunning!

I stopped colouring mine 5 years ago.. I'm 55. It's salt and pepper so not a beautiful white, but every time I think 'oh should I colour it again?' I remember that it made my hair drier, and the roots came through in 2 weeks!

I currently have a pixie-turning-into-a-mullet which I regret... a year ago I had hair nearly to my waist, so am starting to grow it again, but I won't dye it.

Even if I did, I'd still have a 55 yr old face!!!

Going grey is quite freeing!

Put rosehip oil on for about 3 mins before you wash it. It works for me.

Thanks for the tip 😃
I have been using PK elasticiser once a week which has helped and bought myself some Olaplex which I’ve used twice now
Moroccon oil is my latest try out, it does feel nice two days after .

I think I’ll just keep trying to keep it tame and greying !

I let it grow out during lockdown. I hadn't planned on it because I thought I was too young at 45. I was very dark brown, Mediterranean skin colour. I didn't think it would suit me but I'm silver all over and only ever had compliments. Do I miss the dark hair?yes, It was shiny and part of my identity. But I had to pay a fortune to get it coloured every five weeks. It started not to take, probs because it was so silver. It's Personal choice, but I'm happy I let nature do it's thing. Dyed hair can be lovely too though
