45, pixie cut but not too short.

I have loved my long, sleek, shiny pixie for my small features face for 25 years. I have tried growing it out but lost patience and I am not sure what it will be like now that I am older.

My (first world) problems are:

Hairdresser keep cutting it too short, I have tried 5 salons and paid up to £65 per cut. They are all trigger happy and where I want a long sweeping side fringe to cover up high forehead, end up with a too short, bold looking patch. Some also feathered my thin hair, so whatever was left of he fringe was wispy and see through. The reason I am in this position is due to moving and losing access to my long time hairdresser who cut it perfectly.

Hair now has lot of grey odd hairs, which I am not bothered about but they are coarse and overall my hair is drier than it was.

I hate the mirror and my face on Teams calls, this too short cut ages me.

I don’t know how to grow it out while keeping tidy if they cut it too short, despite picture and detailed explanation.

Part of me want to grow it out into asymmetric bob, but I am worried that it will take 2 years of untidy hair and I will not like it.

Also I am not sure whether short hair cut is something I should reconsider as everything is heading south on my face and may be I need more softer frame around my face. Tried those apps with various cut but found then useless.

Any advice on how to care better for aging hair is welcome, as well as common sense on what to do about the cut, as I have overthought it now and can’t make a decision.

If it's not looking quite right on you then I'd say grow it out. Having grown out a pixie a couple of times my advice is head scarfs, head bands and general accessories because no matter the cut you're right it will look a bit messy for a while. An asymmetric bob sounds nice - but you'll need to find a hairdresser you like!

And with aging hair you need deep conditioning treatments - it's the only thing that blends in the wiriness! I like Elasticiser best but banana hair food is okay too to use with abandon as it's £5 for a massive pot.

Thank you. Accessories are a good call and I will have look at Elastisizer.
