Best method for Jumper debobbling?

Citrusandginger · 22/10/2023 10:40

I know it's an exciting topic, but I'm poorly, have a pile of nice jumpers that need debobbling and there are films on the TV.

I've tried a battery debobbler without success, and am doing a bit better with a basic disposable razor but it's slow progress.

Are the plug in electric debobblers (that look really tempting) any better? Or would I be wasting my money?

Don’t do what I did… I eyed up DH’s electric razor and had a go with that. Amazing results till I looked closer and had made teeny tiny holes all over all my jumpers.

Citrusandginger · 22/10/2023 21:15

Oh noo! OK. I won't try that then GrinI'll tell DH his shaver is safe.

I know you said you hadn't had much luck with battery ones but this one works great for me! It says you can take off the guard for a 'closer de bobble' which I did and it works really well. Yes I've tried the razor shaving method and ended up with several holes! Here's mine after de bobbling a pair of joggers and a sweatshirt!

I’ve got this one. I’m pretty impressed with it! My jumpers are looking excellent 😁
I’ve used the smaller, battery powered ones before but find I’m forever unclogging them and they aren’t very powerful.

Fawbs89 · 22/10/2023 22:59

We have a rechargeable electric debobbler from amazon and it works great.

Citrusandginger · 23/10/2023 08:49

Thank you! I've ordered the one from @cannaethink's link. It seems like rechargeable is the way to go.

I also have a coat I can try reviving with it. Happy days.

I use an electric debobbler without the guard too & it's brilliant. But the number of times I've tried to use it with the clear plastic cap on is unreal 😁
It also really helps to debobble on a hard surface like a kitchen table.

Optimist1 · 23/10/2023 09:23

I agree with @Cantonet about a hard surface. I use my ironing board.

Mumsanetta · 23/10/2023 09:33

Thank you for the post @Citrusandginger and the link @cannaethink, I too have ordered!

I've switched from a battery powered debobbler to a cashmere comb (Amazon / Clothes-Doctor.com) & find it way better, results are more consistent & faster

TheNoodlesIncident · 23/10/2023 10:23

I don't know why the battery debobblers you've tried haven't worked? I've got the Philips lint shaver for removing pilling, it works really well and I haven't had any issues with it at all. More expensive than some of the generic ones but I think it's worth it.

I've got a few cashmere items as well as ordinary wool jumpers, but I've also used it on cushions and coats/skirts, happy with the results.

Hope yours works out just as well Smile

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 23/10/2023 10:42

I use the Philips and it works brilliantly. Take off the guard, have the item on a flat solid area and then look at how the item is knitted, as sometimes the nature of the pattern means the shaver works better running in a different direction. I even use on socks and the elastic banding on jackets!

ShangPie · 23/10/2023 14:53

I spent a very happy afternoon a few weeks ago debobbling my sweaters, OP you are not alone!

Best for me is a combo of the battery ones above and this type of comb:

Weird Y shaped comb thing

It’s best for wool and more sturdy items, but definitely shifts the bobbles! The battery one comes out for more delicate items, and the ‘lots of gentle passes over a hard surface’ approach works best for me

Hello any midwives or anyone with experience with induction? I was induced my first Labour as I had really bad SPD but they also thought she was measuring a bit big, she was born 4/4/2023 and she was 7lb9, I fell pregnant again 8 weeks postpartum and I’m wondering if I can ask to be induced again as I’m only 17 weeks and it’s back already and much worse than what it was the first pregnancy. So just wondering if you’ve been induced once will they induce you again? I had extra scans last time which lead them to say she’s measuring a big so they’d induce me because of that and the SPD but I don’t think I’ll have extra scans this time

Lleggo · 23/10/2023 15:22

What was Labour like after giving birth only 2 months prior to falling pregnant again? My body has had no time to recover from my last birth really as I fell pregnant 8 weeks post Parton, wondering what the second Labour was like from someone that had a similar experience thanks

AnitaDeepali · 23/10/2023 15:26

It's depressing our clothes are now such awful quality we have to discuss the best method of shaving them.

@Lleggo are you planning to de-bobble clothes during labour?!

DRS1970 · 23/10/2023 15:26

I use electric hair clippers with a No1 guard. Just need a light touch, otherwise you risk having a thin spot or hole.

APurpleSquirrel · 23/10/2023 15:26

I bought a battery operated debobbler from Dunelm a few weeks back as DH had put a jersey fitted sheet on our bed that was like sandpaper! I spent a very happy 30mins debobbling it, & eventually everyone had a go!

Thethuthinang · 23/10/2023 16:10

Stroke jumper gently with coarse sandpaper.

Mirabai · 23/10/2023 16:15

I’ve got the Philips one it works really well.

Fawbs89 · 24/10/2023 13:53

This is the one I it's very good!

Thought I'd update and say that I went with this one and it is actually brilliant.

Have so far rescued 2 woollen coats, a jacket and a draw full of previously scruffy jumpers. Now I'm sad about all the nice jumpers I've thrown away needlessly in the past.
