Scaly patch on face?

BankruptedByBirds · 19/10/2023 11:52

I've developed a rough reddish patch on my face which I'm trying to identify. It's itchy sometimes, it came on suddenly about two weeks ago.

Does anyone know what it is and how to treat it? I don't have eczema or psoriasis but I do have itchy scabs on my head if I don't use special shampoo, which I thought might be connected. Thanks in advance x

Maybe basal cell sarcoma? You should see a dermatologist. If it is, they will suggest surgical removal, but it can be cured by applying turmeric.

I have this too? Been a year or so, hadn't occurred to me to get it checked out tbh.

I get these sometimes random places. I was told ages ago stress eczema. I have a pretty stressful job, are you stressed at all?

Makethemostofit · 19/10/2023 15:43

I think that if it heals by itself and doesn’t get gradually bigger, then it isn’t basal cell.

Do you use retinol? I get this sometimes if I take it too close to my eyes.

DrMarshaFieldstone · 19/10/2023 16:00

What shampoo do you use for the itchy patches? The active ingredient that treats them might be a clue.

What makes you rule out eczema or psoriasis? Scalp psoriasis is really common. I suffer badly from it.

Do you wear nail polish? You can be sensitive to that and everyone touches their eyes countless times.

TitInATrance · 19/10/2023 16:24

Keratosis? Get a doctor to check. I have keratosis on my face which isn’t concerning, although you can be prescribed cream to get rid of it. I’ve also had basal cell carcinoma (surgically removed).

In worst case if you do need it removed, earlier is better!

My psoriasis looks like that on my face.

I get this through food choices.
Like Lidl Salsa or M&S Biriyani. Doesn't stop me lol but try eating home cooked food for a few days and drink lots of water, bet it goes.

When I say I don't have psoriasis or eczema I meant I have never been diagnosed with either. I use Head and Shoulders Dermaxpro for my itchy scalp and only get scabs and itching if I use a different shampoo.

I don't use retinol but do use Aldi toners with BHA or glycolic acid in but don't get them near my eyes.

I don't use nail polish because I'm allergic to either that or the remover- my nails start to lift from the nail plate if I do.

Thank you for your suggestions, I will keep an eye on it and take further advice if it doesn't clear up. I haven't put anything on it yet, but I might try Sudocrem - that should be ok?

Cross posted with some of you. It does look like keratosis having googled that, and I have keratosis pilaris on my legs and arms too! Will look into this more now. Will also look at psoriasis.

I have been eating worse food than usual, I try to eat home cooked and avoid UPFs but have been slipping lately, so will take this as a warning and get back on it.

Thanks again everyone.
