Recently my hair has been really flyaway, with loads of static. Can anybody please recommend anything that might help?

southeastastra · 08/03/2008 17:58

BoysOnToast · 08/03/2008 17:59

aussie haircare stuff. tis v good for that imo.

janeite · 08/03/2008 18:00

Lol.

But what to change to eh? It seems to be happening with whatever shampoo and conditioner I use; currently and using the Naked stuff from Boots and before that I had some stuff with added serum - neither helped.

BoysOnToast · 08/03/2008 18:06

poncey website here you can get it anywhere; boots, superdrug, supermarkets etc.

janeite · 08/03/2008 18:07

Sorry - crossed posts I think.

Guess what - I've tried that too - it was okay but not brilliant.

Maybe I need to get it cut?

BoysOnToast · 08/03/2008 18:10

lol.

yeah maybe, if youve tried lots of things.

am toying with going for cropped hair meself atm... [not sure]

southeastastra · 08/03/2008 18:12

what brush do you use? sometimes they can make static worse.

BoysOnToast · 08/03/2008 18:16

oh thats a good point.
i use a wide paddle brush with wooden rounded end 'bristles', rather than a bristly or brushy type brush.

BoysOnToast · 08/03/2008 18:17

or theres always hair serum

oh! i forgot, theres a thing called spray wax - a v fine mist of wax which cuts out flyawayness.

janeite · 08/03/2008 18:54

Interesting about the brush. It's a flat Denman one with plastic bristles.

Spray wax sounds a posibility - any particular brands?

I also wonder if a leave in conditioner on the ends might do any good?

OP posts:
BoysOnToast · 08/03/2008 19:21

ah ok

ditch the plastic bristles. you want something like this you can get them in boots, body shop, lots of places.

the spray wax is a tigi thing (from hairdressers) but is also available in boots (cheaper version, but same thing)... in a violently pink can... will try to find a link...

BoysOnToast · 08/03/2008 19:24

this is the stuff

spray it on the ends, all over, wherever you want to calm the flyaways... and go easy, coz youll end up greasy and have to wash again if you go too far

you may have to wash slightly more often, since you are effectively adding a days wear to your hair right after washing/drying

janeite · 08/03/2008 19:26

Thankyou. What are those bristles made out of then please so I know what to look out for? The one I have is that sort of shape.

ooh i really fancy lee stafford, he's such a geezer .

i googled a bit, central heating makes it worse in winter, some sites suggested putting water under the radiators to add moisture to the atmosphere.

some sites suggested you use a bounce tumble dry sheet when the static happens too .

BoysOnToast · 08/03/2008 21:28

ah, well those ones are plastic. some of them are wood. i dont think that matters so much, more that they are like that and far apart, rather than something like this or this. (also found this while i was looking, and was going to use it to illustrate what not to get (!) but it says its anti-static so maybe im talking out my arse )
