Tempted to give up on Tretinoin

I am an absolute skincare addict, and have persisted with Tretinoin now since God knows when, but I would say maybe 4 years.

I’ve tried everything, tiny amounts, sandwiched in it between other products, using it every other day, I have tried tret bought from online pharmacies in Spain, I’ve tried the version from dermatica, and recently I managed to get Differin prescribed by my GP.

The Differin is definitely better than the full on tretinoin, but today I was just wondering - why am I still persisting in this? My skin is red and blotchy, not too bad, but not great either.

Have gone from being absolutely dreadful with my skin peeling off just, to just this mild redness, I am loath to give up, but I’m starting to think I finally had enough!

Has anyone else given up on tretinoin and have you regretted it?

A skincare person on TikTok is giving it up too. I think if it's not right for your skin then give your skin a break. There are alternatives.

I’ve pretty much given up on it. Started on the mildest otc sort of stuff and then moved over to prescription after about a year. While it did massively improve the overall tone of my skin and even out scarring etc I had a constant peel somewhere on my face. Just wasn’t worth it for me, no point in having lovely even skin if it’s always flaking!
I know how to use it, it just doesn’t seem to agree with me.

I know what you mean about the flaking, I’m really into make-up as well as skincare and it just means that there’s a high chance my foundation is going to look dreadful. And I use really fucking expensive foundation😅

It’s just that at 52, there’s a lot out there about this being the only proven anti-aging ingredient. I’m thinking of trying some skincuticles products instead.

I’ve not given up and won’t be using it’s the only thing that keeps my acne at bay and allows me to wear pretty much any makeup. (Before using it I couldn’t tolerate anything with silicone otherwise it brought my acne out big time). However, I’ve never been able to move from the lowest strength with Dermatica (0.015%). Can you tolerate any amounts at all?

Try And Begin. Tretinoin starts at 0.005% up to 0.1% and comes in a cream with loads of other goodies. Tret is the only thing that works.

I'm reducing my strength from 0.1 to 0.05 as we go into winter as you're right no point constantly having flaky skin (which is what I still have on and off after about three years)
