Can the colours that suit you change as you get older?

Even if your colouring hasn’t drastically changed? I had my colours done years ago, before I was 30, and was a ‘jewel winter’- dark hair and skin, bright blue eyes. High contrast. Deeper jewel colours- ‘cold’ purples, teal, charcoal, even icy grey do look good on me in older photos.

But I’m now 45. I’m guessing maybe the contrast has faded little- and my hair is lighter, with perhaps a bit more red, thanks to a not-terrible box dye. I’ve realised I look much better in deep ‘earthy’, warm colours- dark olive green, maroon, mustard, even brown. I look best in dark cornflower blue/cobalt. It’s been quite a revelation and I’m loving trying new colours. But they seem the complete opposite of what suited me before. I think I’m now a ‘deep Autumn?’

Is it usual for the colours that flatter you to change, or am I just kidding myself because I got bored of grey and purple?

Mine didn’t change. I was a cool summer and now at 59 with silver hair they suit me more than ever.

Unless summer colours are more flattering? It sounds like you were wrongly diagnosed.

Colour me Beautiful would say they can change with age. Skin and eyes, as well as hair, can lose pigment.

Yes, I wear different colours now than when I was younger.

Yes, I can no longer wear some bright colours I could wear when I was younger. My hair is lighter (naturally, not through dye) and I expect my skin tone has changed too.

I believe house of colour say you stay in your season forever but a jewel winter for example might become more of a burnished winter. I’m a jewel winter and the older I get the more I realise I can carry off summer colours as well now, guess because my contrast is fading a bit. Still best in winter colours though but maybe less bright
