People who REALLY feel the cold

....as in 20 degrees in summer you’re wearing 2-3 layers - What keeps you warmish in winter? This will be my third winter in the UK, I’m in the South East and nothing has kept me warm. My flat without heating was 19 last night. That is freezing and heating was quickly switched on and went up to 24 but I had on the Uniqlo extra warm top, oodie, leggings AND joggers so was comfortable. This how cold I feel, I know it’s ridiculous to most people but I can’t help it.

Things I have that don’t keep me warm:
M&S heatgen & Uniqlo heattech extra & ultra warm tops & leggings
North face Arctic parka
amazon & primary thick fleece lined leggings
Real wool jumpers
not to mention numerous knit beanies, earmuffs and gloves.

Nothing works for the 3 days a week I have to spend around 3-5 hours outside. I’ve also spent a fortune on those hand and feet warmers that heat up for a few hours.

Help!

@MrsHedgewitch same here, we just have a wood burner which we put on in the evenings and 12-15c is the standard temperature inside. I only really notice it when I sit down and always keep a down coat handy. As long as I keep moving I’m ok.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow I knit everything, so no, very minimal cost. Wool blankets are ones I had as a child decades ago, and some jumpers are also old ones my Mum knitted my Dad fifty years ago… but old wool blankets can be found incredibly cheaply in charity shops.

@Louloulouenna yes, you don’t generally notice it do you. Also, makes the cosines of the stove when it is on special. I always think the house is warm - it never has ice on the insides of the windows like my childhood home has, and I’ve never had to close the majority of it off and live in one heated room like I know plenty of people do. I’m lucky.

24???? Allow yourself time to acclimatise, maybe even wear less and definitely move more. Sensitivity to cold isn't genetic, you will get used to it.

I work from home most of the time. Sitting at a computer in those temperatures I wouldn't be able to work effectively.

Sensitivity to cold isn't genetic,

It may not be genetic, but it can be due to several health conditions.

Agreed, I wouldn’t be able to sit and work all day at a screen without some form of heating.

I'm not sure if this has been said already, but OP I would advise you to do some research into hypothyroidism and testing in the UK. It is likely you will switch into hypo at some point if you haven't already. Also if you have Hashimoto's thyroiditis then symptoms can sometimes swing between the two. I have hypo and I've always been warm (which in theory is the wrong way round). Testing for thyroid problems in the UK is very basic and doctors often don't do anything about hypo until your TSH is over 10, when actually you can be experiencing symptoms long before that, and other more detailed tests can show problems.
