Help! I have to go to an awards ceremony and I don't know what to wear!

It starts at lunchtime but there will be celebs and that so presume they'll be wearing sparkly stuff. I'm not a sleb (obviously ) and will be going straight from work so ideally it will be something I can wear to work and then on to the do. Any ideas? I suppose it's got to be something that I can dress up/down but I'm rubbish at that kind of thing - I'm either jeans or a cocktail dress, I don't know how to do a dual use outfit.

what sort of slebs?
serious ones or OK mag fodder?

spicemonster · 07/03/2008 22:04

Not even OK fodder - more like Heat. It's more leona, less madonna. But I want to sort of blend in. Or at least not look as though I might be a waitress or something

maybe have a browse on coast online
dress it up with jewellery?

best to bump the thread in the morning when MrsB etc may be back to advise... not really my area iykwim!

Rosylily · 07/03/2008 22:19

i wouldn't have a clue but what about just changing quickly at work from jeans to dress? Or going in casualish clothes and changing make up, jewellry and shoes to glam things up?
It sounds very exciting anyway!

Maidamess · 07/03/2008 22:21

Get a black dress. Wear with plain jacket to work. Apply lashings of make up , strappy shoes and fab jewellry before event. Appear in Ok magazine following week.

OracleInaCoracle · 07/03/2008 22:24

something like this with a jacket or cardigan for work?

spicemonster · 08/03/2008 10:06

you are a genius lissielou

you inspired me to swing by matalan on my way back from lidl this morning (I didn't mention that I don't have a lot of cash did I?) and I got this. Which is excitingly low cut and I already have a very sparkly necklace for the 'do' and a demure cardi for the office in the morning.

I can also wear it to my friend's 40th garden party this summer

Result! Thanks MN - I knew you'd come up trumps

fab dress
at the bargain price

spicemonster · 08/03/2008 15:40

It's a good price isn't it? I heart matalan nowadays. It used to be really frumpy but now I reckon it'd give Primark a run for its money and has the added bonus of not being like a jumble sale (plus I don't think the clothes look as cheap)

gorgeous!
Must check out matalan!
