Need warm clothes

I am short and a bit chubby. I’ve seen myself in photos and jeans and a jumper don’t really suit me and make me look massive. It’s getting cold and I need warm clothes, but I don’t want to look like I’m trying too hard or getting too dressed up to go outside. I’m not a millionaire but can someone link to some clothes I can buy that might be ok

Why not start with some thermal underwear from Primark or M&S, or Heattech stuff from Uniqlo? Effective and not at all expensive.

Don’t really understand your ‘trying too hard’ point? It’s Winter, people wear clothes to keep warm - who is going to judge you for that? Confused

Without knowing more about your size, budget, lifestyle and clothing preferences it’s hard to make useful suggestions.

Would leggings, boots and a jumper dress do op?

WellIdontknowwhattocallmyself · 15/10/2023 16:33

I’m a size 12 top size 14 bottoms. I live in a town. I just want to get 3-4 things. My budget is about £50-60 per item I don’t really want to spend much more than £200.

Have a look at

Uniqlo - especially the new collaborations and cord items.

Community Clothing - recently expanded range of ethically produced and minimally marked up basics. Made in the UK. Lovely knitwear and loungewear.

M&S might be ok for basic knitwear.

Your budget may not cover more luxurious knitwear, or cotton velvet (which is gorgeously warm) unless you look at pre-owned sites. Sports and travel brands do stock warm clothes - it depends whether you like the way they look.

Oh, there’s

Toast

of course. You should be able to find a few things during their sales.

I've just bought some fine cord cotton leggings from M&S. £19.50. Thicker & warmer than cheaper ones. Can look quite fllattering with a long line jumper & boots.

Marks and spencers thermal tights are brilliant!!
They are a bit expensive at £15 a pair, though.

I usually wear either black yoga pants with a tunic top, or a dress usually skater style with leggings and boots. The latter is what I was wearing when my grandson said I was dressed like an elf, but at size 18 and 5'7" a bloody huge elf.

I feel your pain! I am size 14 and 5 foot on a good day… big boobs just to top whole thing off 😏
What works for me in winter
-dresses mostly work better than separates as don’t make my already short self cut in 2!
-I wear dresses with merino leggings and socks and shoes/boots. Tights are the work of the devil in my opinion.
-I wear a petticoat under the dress for warmth.. I even have a merino one! You can get away with short sleeves as long as layers underneath. I like merino as warm, light and breathable and washed easily and dries overnight
-I bought a pair wide-legged pants which I found worked well ( I was surprised). I had to have them shortened but wore them longer than I usually do and they made me look longer and thinner.. in a lovely viscose blend so felt “swishy”
-I bought a belt and belted some of my dresses in.. really accentuated my waist and I felt great. When you are short and not svelte it is easy to dress in oversized baggy clothes… realising I need to emphasise my waist was revolutionary ( and I am 58 🤣)
-Have fun!

I wear a soft T shirt or long line vest under my blouses/ tops as I don't feel right in jumpers then add a jersey bomber jacket instead of a cardigan
