Quality brands for knitted jumpers?

Butterflyworms · 14/10/2023 20:43

I want to get a couple of quality, soft, knitted jumpers rather than the ones that go bobbly and thin after a few washes. What brands or shops would you recommend?

Thanks

Or even the material I should be looking for?

Can't beat a nice cashmere. I love the John Lewis cashmeres. Wash them minimally though!

Cos, Arket, Massimo Dutti , Uniqlo on the high street. I like Brora and Pringle of Scotland for more premium knitwear. Generally look for pure wool or combinations of merino, alpaca, mohair and cashmere (or pure versions with nothing synthetic mixed in).

Forgot to mention Poetry and Wrap of London, which do gorgeous knitwear but it's all very pricey, even on sale. High street stores used to do much better quality knitwear but it's all gone downhill now and fabrics tend to be poor. I would look to second-hand shops or Vinted for good quality and big discounts

Merino wool is my favourite. Well, no, cashmere is but I don't have the appropriate income! It is soft, fine and washes well. Lambswool is a bit thicker, more 'wooly' and tricker to wash but lovely and warm. Gap, Uniqlo and Community Clothing are my go to places for affordable decent wool. There are brands that are better quality than Gap or Uniqlo but do cost more.

I like mohair and alpaca as they wash well. I find cashmere baubles terribly so I try to avoid it.

NavyGrey for expensive stuff, Uniqlo for cheaper.

Nothing beats cashmere in terms of softness (if that's important) - you just need a debobbler, like this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-GC026-00-Fabric-Shaver/dp/B00E3862DE/ref=asc_df_B00E3862DE/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=256256967002&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3892080428620414412&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045984&hvtargid=pla-305981808443&psc=1&th=1&psc=1

Depends how much you want to spend. If you want to spend about £300 look at &Daughter or Raey. For something more affordable, And Other Stories. On the high street, Cos or Uniqlo.
