First bra help

My dd would like to have a first bra. She is 11 and just developing but is quite tiny across the back. She is measuring 25 across the back and 28 across the bust. I can’t figure out what size she could be 25c seems unlikely somehow? And where would I get something so small across the back anyway?

I would recommend taking her for a fitting at m&s to find the right size in their angel bra collection. (I used to work as a bra fitter)

When you say she measured 25, what was it in? Inches?

Gilly Hicks and H and M do small bralettes/bras. I’m a 28-30 and very limited in choices but can usually find something at the above. I’ve found M and S unhelpful

25 inches around the rib cage and 28 inches over the bust itself?

MariaVT65 · 14/10/2023 17:03

Just fyi if it was 25 inches round the band, that would be between size 28-30 band :)

OP you won't find a bra in that size as mainstream bras seem to start at a 28 back. If you take it as 26 (bra back sizes are even numbers) and 28 then that gives 26B.

As you will be unlikely to find that then the closest sister size (same cup volume on different back sizes) is 28A so I suggest you try that size first.

Or get a bralette as she isn't too busty

And I wouldn't trust M&S with measuring as they add extra inches to the back size giving a bra too big in the back and too small in the cup. They had me in a 40 back and I'm actually a 36GG

My dd was 24” back 28” chest when she first needed a bra. She is 18 now and still 24/25 back.
Although the modern idea is to match band with rib size, that doesn’t work for all brands as many still use the sizing method of the band label being 4 inches larger than the actual measurement. It also doesn’t matter as much for teens with small breasts, a very snug band is only useful with larger cup sizes and thinner people often find a tight band really uncomfortable. Teenage bra ranges often run much smaller as they use the plus 4” sizing.
It is trial and error though, a lovely lady in M&S actually altered my dd’s bands for her ! But many of their teen bras are small in the band anyway. Take a tape measure out with you.
Royce bras are smaller in the band and they have a teen range.
At her size and age a soft bralet/crop top might be nicer anyway, my dds wore these until around 13/14 when they wanted something more like a bra.

I found M&S really helpful when I took DD12 earlier this year.
Admittedly, I'd measured her at home & knew roughly what size to expect. They measured the same as I did, but recommended we went one size up in cup & back 'for growth' - which I'm glad for as she's filled them out quite quickly.
DD is really happy with the Angel ones we got. It maybe depends on the staff - the young woman we had was brilliant with DD who was quite nervous.

I agree that in my local M&S the lady who fitted DD really could not have been lovelier.

Thankyou for suggestions! I will order a few options and see if I can take her to a couple of shops to see what we can find based on that.
