Thoughts on how do you tackle frizziness & baby hair

Hello

For decades now I am trying to tackle "Frizziness, especially when the weather is humid + baby hair flying all over the place"

The only thing that really worked was having nanokeratin treatments every 6 months but I do not want to start using harsh chemicals to try and tackle frizziness.

I have tried many things:

  1. Various anti freeze products for when washing and post washing, drying, leave in... Nothing worked.
  2. I use the Tangle Angel when my hair are wet to detangle them and before that I was using the wetbrush.
  3. For when my hair is dry, I also bought recently a Kent Brush, the "Classic Shine Large Mixed Bristle Hairbrush" (Order: 147117) and I ensure that I brush my hair from the roots (to spread the scalp oils) and 10 times the same hair. However this brush seems to have made the frizziness worse.

I am Greek with thin but curly hair.

How do you look after your hair (including detangling, brushing) when your hair are wet and when dry to avoid getting frizziness (and baby hair flying all over the place)?

Thank you

If it's curly then don't brush it when dry
I only brush mine when it's wet and had conditioner in (fine, curly hair)
I use gel as a styling product and finish with some hairspray

Hi. Mine is the same but I have very thick hair. so I have been looking up what to do about it and been trying out some products.

Look up the ‘curly girl method’ a lot of people swear by this.

Also agree with don’t brush it whilst it’s wet. A wide tooth comb is better for your hair than a brush

I recommended these products. Use leave in conditioner spray and brush through with wide tooth comb. Best to add moisture to the hair

Thank you very much @2023shady and @Hilove.

@Hilove I just checked the websites and ordered the night cap and microfibre towel from "Only curls". I also read about the "Curly Girl Method" and some of the things it says align with the research I had done, although I doubt I will stop using shampoo.

I think I need to return the Kent brush. I was only using it when my hair were dry (never when wet) but it just does not seem to work for me.

Good morning @Hilove @2023shady

One thing that I forgot to ask again was: When you wake up in the morning, how do you detangle your hair, brush/comb them as they are a bit messy from sleeping? I am asking as you mentioned that you don't brush when dry.

I should clarify and my apologies for this mistake, my hair are weavy, not properly curly. So at the top are straight but at the ends they curl up.

@NV42 yes that’s the way I do it! Also a heat protection spray if I do use any heat styling products but I try not too

Rina66 · 15/10/2023 22:05

The Aveda Anti Humectant pomade is very good, you don't need much, but it makes my frizzy hair much sleeker as it repels moisture - great in the humidity.
I also use Kerastase shampoo and conditioner, certain shampoos can make my hair very frizzy, I find the shampoo I use as important as the conditioner.

@Hilove

I had contacted "Kent brushes" and they asked me if my hair are frizzy or reacting to static. They also sent to me an article on how to reduce static in your hair here: https://www.healthline.com/health/how-to-get-rid-of-static-from-hair#prevention

The article says that it is best to use metal combs which are anti-static but they aren't many on the market. I am not sure if I am frizzy now or reacting to static when using boar bristles hair brushes.

@Rina66 thank you.

I will try the Aveda. I have been using Kerastage for ages although now I want to try L-Occitane and John Frieda.

Hair that's filled with static can make your usually tame locks look like they're ready to fly away. So what can you do to get rid of these annoying flyaway frizzes?

@NV42 hi. If you try John Freida look for the sulphate free range as some of their shampoo products contain sulphates which aren’t good for your hair

I think Amazon may sell metal combs too if you have a look on there

kopitiamgal · 16/10/2023 21:06

Is you hair actually healthy or damaged? My hair is thick and curly, frizzy when I don't properly shampoo, condition and blow dry. Greta once I do rebonding then keep up the routine.

NV42 · 17/10/2023 09:43

@kopitiamgal

Thank you for your reponse. I couldn't understand what you mean when you said "Greta once I do rebonding".. apologies.

In response to your question, as I used to have nanokeratin treatments and I colour my hair, there is a bit of damage but not significant.

Most of the freeze is on the scalp. I suffer both from freeze and baby hair flying all over the place.

I should mention that the first day when I wash my hair I dont have any freeze (unless it rains and there is humidity so they will get frizzy when I step out). They get frizzy the next morning after I have slept (and I use a silk pillowcase, it did no difference none so ever).

OP, what is "anti freeze products"?

I have baby fine hair too so am always looking for good products.

You can't return a hairbrush you've used!

Rina66 · 17/10/2023 10:33

I think that's a typo @falalalalal, should be anti frizz I think?

Also assuming Greta once I do rebonding should be Great once I do rebonding - fast fingers!!!
