Wedding guest outfit

I’m in my 20s and this is the first wedding I’ve been invited to (outside of family when I was younger). I’m not sure what is appropriate to wear, any ideas? 😊

the wedding is at a large estate in the countryside, very picturesque!

The colours bride said are a no: white, cream, pink, red, teal, gold, dusty blue.

I might try navy or green. I’m petite so the length of the dress is important. I wanted something maxi length but don’t want to risk it dragging on the ground. Are sleeveless dresses inappropriate at a wedding? What sort of jacket would look right?

Also could a blazer/trouser co-ord or jumpsuit work?

Jumpsuit would look good!

I’m not sure of the unwritten rules for guests… thanks for the direction! A colleague suggested I wear green, didn’t realise it was frowned upon?

Any other example dresses would be really helpful!

this is another one I came across, it’s not as figure fitting https://www.tedbaker.com/uk/p/Womens/Clothing/Dresses/GABIE-One-Shoulder-Drape-Midi-Dress-Dark-Blue/157697-DK-BLUE

I’ll be there in the daytime and the evening.

The only colour not allowed is white/cream/ivory. And not something you'd wear to a funeral either. Green is fine, very popular this year actually as the high street has really embraced it.

Your choices are lovely OP, I think 3 or 4 are perfect, 3 is my preference.

All your choices are fab, my faves are dress 4 and the Ted Baker one x

Can you find a multicoloured dress that incorporates all of these?

This would also work. The MOG at the aforementioned country wedding I recently went to wore a floaty 2 piece chiffon top and wide legged trousers.

At the end of the day, there will be women wearing all manner of lovely clothes. Some will be like the ones, you pictured. Some will be trouser suits and jumpsuits.

You should wear what you like best out of all the dresses you’ve chosen. However, for the ceremony and group photos you will need a jacket if your shoulders are bare. If you don’t, you then may look a bit to try hard or vying for attention. And a jacket and full length dress is absolutely fine. As I said, the MOB helped my 15 yo choose her dress.

If you’re really unsure and you think you’d wear the clothes again have a decent budget etc, you could always have a shorter day dress like pic 3 or 4 in your original post / jumpsuit etc and change for the evening into a dress like pic 1 or 2.

The only other piece of advice is to have a good look at the pics of the country house and take some flats in case the floors are uneven. There were a lot of stairs in the one we went to, going across courtyards etc and original floors. I bought some kitten heels and a pair of new look flats for the evening. I only ended up wearing the flats… but I’m a lot older than you and not that steady on my feet.
