Hair loss? Feeling worried.

Hi all,

I know you can't diagnose but I'm just looking for some advice really and struggling with hair loss. I'm late twenties. In August I noticed a tiny 3mm bald spot and then another one around 4mm...they don't seem to have grown but then I became a bit preoccupied with it and I noticed in my hair parting on one side has patches in it. What on earth is going on? I have an appointment with my doctor next week to discuss blood test results so hopefully that will provide some answers. Any similar experiences or thoughts would be appreciated x

You need to wait for the blood test results. My hair was falling out in clumps before I was diagnosed with thyroid issues and I had bald patches at the side of my head.

Low ferritin also causes hair loss -be warned, it can be marked as ‘normal’ as low as 20 but, iirc, needs to be above 70 to support hair growth.
Low B12 can also cause hair loss, even in the low end of the normal range.
Low vitamin D also causes hair loss and reduced growth. Normal is 50, optimal is 75, but you could be marked as ‘satisfactory’ at 48/49 and wouldn’t be told to supplement.
Lowish folate has been linked to hair loss too.

Find out exactly what blood tests you had done, get a print out if you can, that way you can see where your levels sit compared to the labs reference ranges. So, for example, if your B12 is 152 and the labs reference range is 150-900, then you could supplement to boost your levels but would be wasting your time if say your level was already 845.

Hopefully the results will show something easily fixable & you have a Dr that does more than just read ‘normal’ off the lab report.

Thank you so much,I had no idea about any of that or that you could request a print out of the test results. I will definitely do that. A lot of those make sense actually, I'm naturally very pale, long term vegeterian and I had a bad bout of depression so my diet wasn't great for about 7 months so it will be interesting to see what the doctor says. Thank you again.

Up your protein and drink more water and get adequate zinc inside you, takes about 3 months to see results
