Have gone skinny and lost my "assets" - help me dress pretty please !

Hello,
Hoping you wise ladies will be able to help me here. Have always been on the skinny side but for the last 3 years have been pregnant or bf so had size-able "assets". Now, unfortunately they have pretty much disappeared.

I look really flat-chested in all my clothes. The rest of me is pretty skinny too (5ft4, 49-50 kilos 8 stone?) so I'm fairly sure I could be making more of this unexpected weight loss (prob. due to still bf DS2 13 mths and not ever managing to finish a meal!).

At the moment I'm just getting colleagues saying you look like you've lost weight NOT in a good way IYSWIM.

What sort of clothes should I be wearing to minimise the flat-chested look (they're prob. a 34 A/B now) and make the most of being skinny while it lasts?

Am a teacher so can't be going in for skin-tight jeans etc.

Would really appreciate some help, what with the bags under my eyes and eczema break-outs, I'm feeling like I look like cr*p at the mo.

what about a dress with leggings underneath - that sort of look suits slim women

Maidamess · 08/03/2008 12:14

Layers, cardis with ruffles down the front, details on the chest like pockets etc. Or failing that, put some of those chicken fillets down your bra! Or a wonderbra to emphasise what you've got? Chunky necklaces to disguise the area as well might work.

katierocket · 08/03/2008 12:15

get a really good bra

posieflump · 08/03/2008 12:15

from ivillage "Small Bust

Best necklines are high necks and asymmetrical necklines. They broaden the shoulders and create the illusion of a larger bust. Printed tees are also flattering for small chests.
Best sleeve lengths are sleeveless. Women with small chests tend to have slimmer arms so the goal is to draw attention to them and away from the chest.
Avoid low scoop-neck tops or deep V-neck tops with three-quarter sleeves. They accentuate bony chests and draw attention to the fact that you have a small bust. The V acts as an arrow to the bust and the sleeves accentuate small arms. "

You can get away with high necks, too. or slash necks. This kind of shape shift dress. Think Audrey Hepburn.

katierocket · 08/03/2008 12:16

that sounded flippant but it isn't. I have a similar issue (boobs completely disappeared after BF DS2), tried on about 500 bras and finally found one that makes a difference.

posieflump · 08/03/2008 12:18

if I were you (mucho here lol) I would go into town on your own or with best friend and trawl through the trentdy shops trying on all those clothes in shops like Topshop, Miss Selfridges and H&M which are made for women with figures like yours and see what you like

JackieNo · 08/03/2008 12:18

Boat neck tops
stripy
Pink (also comes in green)

JackieNo · 08/03/2008 12:21

Something with a bit of gathering, or Plain version.

JackieNo · 08/03/2008 12:22

Jumper with skinny jeans and boots - could look a bit Kate Moss.

HaventSleptForAYear · 08/03/2008 12:23

Thank you. Better get the Breakfast at Tiffany's dvd out ! Good tip about the 3/4 sleeves - I have loads of them and it's true I do look scrawny in them. Never thought sleeve length could make any difference.

Sleeveless is all very well but it's freezing out there plus I can't see it going down well at work ! Am a cold person too.

Think I do need some new bras too Katierocket - still wearing my bf ones during the day when I really don't need to I suppose - they're just so comfy !

Yes Posieflump I do need to go in and try some stuff on, you're right (again!). It is nice to have some idea what to look for though - unfortunately I'm in France so can't go to any of the places you all mention but perhaps need to go back to some of the "younger" places here - stopped going there when couldn't fit into any of it.

Are skinny jeans on their way out now? Don't want to invest to find them "passé" by summer !
