Shoes/boots with arch support

wanttogetadvice · 10/10/2023 08:48

Any one have advice on which shoes or boots that look smart and have arch support? I am living on sketchers and asics shoes which have arch support but want something comfy and smarter to wear daily. I am overweight and have high arches so need something that I can wear which would not make my feet hurt at the end of the day. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I end up putting insoles in shoes, boots and trainers. Not cheap for decent ones, but I then have access to a wider choice of footwear. 😁

StuntNun · 10/10/2023 09:12

Gabor are very good. I have six pairs of their Mary Jane-style shoes.

@EVHead that's a topic for another thread. I have yet to find comfortable insoles. Which ones do you recommend? Don't your shoes get tight after putting insoles? Will I have to go a size up in shoes?

You take out the original insoles and cut and replace with the arch support ones. I got mine off ebay they are expensive but really worth it

Vionic are excellent

Lavendersquare · 10/10/2023 12:03

Have a look at Vionic shoes, there are loads of styles, they are really supportive and have the best arch support I've seen. They are quite pricy but definitely worth it. They sell them on the Next website which is where I found them so really easy to order/send back etc. I have narrow feet and they do come up quite wide so bear that in mind.

I second the insoles idea. I bought some from Birkenstock and wear them in everything. No need to size up or remove the show’s own insole either

dressedforcomfort · 10/10/2023 16:29

Orthotic insoles are a game-changer. I have virtually no arch at all and need them to hold my foot in the right position. Cannot go out without them.

Purpleavocado · 10/10/2023 17:10

I have gabor boots, they are very comfortable, but may be too narrow for you.

Summerhillsquare · 10/10/2023 17:21

Strive!

whiteroseredrose · 10/10/2023 17:23

I second Strive. I have a couple of pairs of their ankle books which are v comfortable.

RosesAndHellebores · 10/10/2023 17:28

In boots I can go up half a size and use a good insole. For shoes, you need a removable insole and I insert a less raised one.

Probably worth seeing a podiatrist for advice.

Gabor, Clarks, Hotter, Seibel all work - possibly not as glamorous as you may like.

Bearing in mind how much we wear our slippers - supportive ones are helpful and take the strain off sufficiently to manage without too much support for special occasions/dressier days: Rohde, Seibel clogs, birkies, vionic, etc.

DD and I both need arch support. Our podiatrist advised that sketchers paved the path to hell for foot sufferers.

I've had achilles problems for a little while. I bought some Anne Klein flats whilst I was in NY. Really good and supportive and much better than the cheapo flats I was wearing.

GreenTuraco · 10/10/2023 17:35

Shoes by Keen, mostly outdoor styles but some more 'normal' ones. Also some Merrell styles

lookingforMolly · 10/10/2023 21:06

I like my Adidas Campus black & white suede trainers new for winter - as a bonus you can remove the insole from most Adidas trainers and replace it with an arch support insole!! From Office £85.

I also bought a pair of Blowfish Malibu Leven black Chelsea boots from Next £75; the chunky sole & block heel also give good arch support.

Basically I have plantar fasciitis so need arch support but like to be fashionable too!

lookingforMolly · 10/10/2023 21:09

The arch support insoles I buy for my trainers are off Amazon; they're called Valsole £19.
You start off wearing them for a couple of hours and build up as they feel strange at first.

I don't feel I need my special insoles in my boots as they seem to have arch support anyway.

CMOTDibbler · 10/10/2023 21:11

Insoles are much better than the ones in any shoe - for you, you'll want ones specifically for high arches. I get ones for collapsed forefoot and the relief is heaven even though they are quite hard - soft shoes make my feet hurt more as they collapse into them

wanttogetadvice · 10/10/2023 22:26

@RosesAndHellebores I guess I will have to see a podiatrist. I use Sketchers go walk but their trainers make my shins hurt and my legs heavy after wearing them. These ones aren't as bad but I would like to walk without pain and wear proper nice shoes some day. I will look into arch support insoles as well. It never occurred to me to remove the previous insoles.

Also don't walk around your home in bare feet, I wear my sliders but some of the slippers suggestions by pp are good

wanttogetadvice · 16/10/2023 23:17

@lookingforMolly I can't walk bare feet. I wear my trusty birkenstock sliders at home.
