Lightweight/summer jackets for 5-7 yr old boys ...

This gets me every year! I can find lovely winter coats, no problem, but ask me to get something suitable for the boys to wear on a cool summers or even spring day and I'm stumped.

They've chosen these www.boden.co.uk/col.asp?segname=Mini&styid=21192&segid=5&gpname=Tops+%26+T%2Dshirts&desname=Stitched +Logo+Hoody&gpid=27&gen=2 but my eldest had something similar from Kids Gap last year and I didn't really like it. I don't want raincoats, not necessarily a more formal jacket but just something nice which can be smart & trendy at the same time.

Does anyone have any suggestions please.

TIA

hennes usually have nice summer jackets, ds has had them for the past couple of years. nice bright colours too.

millie1 · 07/03/2008 10:21

Thanks Hoxtonchick ... shall bear that in mind. They don't sell on-line though, do they? Nearest H&M is a 90 mile drive and I'm feeling too pregnant to tackle shops at the moment hence my determination to order their summer wardrobes via the net!

Any other suggestions ladies?

i will have a look next week in the interests of consumer research millie . ds needs one anyway, so i'll report back. how old are your boys?

millie1 · 07/03/2008 12:11

Oh thanks a million Hoxtonchick - but only if you'll be in there anyway! They're 4 and 6. Happy shopping!

i work 2 mins from oxford circus, shopping opportunites abound . and they've just opened a nice big new h&m...

hoxtonchick · 07/03/2008 14:02

duh, just noticed your title tells the boys' ages. my ds is 6.

Millie, I've just found some very nice boys' jackets in Zara - simple light showerproof with (the holy grail of summer jackets) a lightweight cotton lining - neither sticky unlined plastic nor that horrid sportswear "mesh" thing that are your usual options.

Nice colours - nice enough for me to get one for 7yo dd as well & for her not to twig it is a boy's jacket.

There're Zaras aplenty on Oxford Street if your intrepid friend wants to check those out too. (Don't think they're online.)

The other place - also in Oxford St - which is good for jackets which can do smart when necessary is Benetton. But they tend to sell out very fast of anything nice, so you have to lurk & pounce.

i am indeed an intrepid shopper bink . the only zara which does children's clothes is the one on the corner of bond st i think. am having lunch with MI on my only office day next week, but will apply myself to the task!

What wonderful people you are! Hoxtonchick, seriously, please do not spend hours tramping the shops on a mission. Only look if you are genuinely searching for similar for your own DS. If I can make it to H&M at some stage, I can make it to Zara!

ok, i have bought ds a coat. he loves it, i think it's a bit dingy as it's khaki. but it's a good shape & has lots of pockets. i will take a photo and put it on my profile. and it was only 15 quid.

OverMyDeadBody · 12/03/2008 20:10

millie have you looked on ebay? I've got DS quite a few lightweight summer coats there, including a lovely red bennetton one that lasted all of last summer. Definately worth a look

millie1 · 12/03/2008 21:05

Thanks Hoxtonchick ... shall keep an eye out for it. Where did you end up buying it? Sounds good - and good value too!

OMDB ... hadn't thought about eBay ... shall have a look this evening. Thanks for that suggestion!
