Can I wear chinos in winter?

And what shoes would you wear with them? My workplace is casual but we have a few customer events coming up and I have NOTHING to wear.

I need to look effortlessly smart casual and be comfortable enough to be running around and on my feet all day. Thank you!

You mean beige/light coloured chinos? To me, that's more for spring/summer. And perhaps too casual for a client event but obviously that depends on your industry, your role, and the event venue.

Do you have a pair of dark trousers?

For Autumn /Winter ‘effortlessly casual’ trousers would be well cut cords or a good weighty grey flannel (made of wool). To me, at least.

Nothing at all to stop you wearing chinos - but part of stylishness is demonstrating an awareness of changing seasons! (Keeping warm is probably less of a consideration these days.)

Yes I do, in autumn probably more than winter. Black or navy blue ones, with brogues, trainers or loafers. When it gets very cold I switch to cords instead.

Thank you! I tend to rotate skinny jeans and although I could also wear them for events I'd prefer a bit smarter.

"but part of stylishness is demonstrating an awareness of changing seasons! " @EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues good point!!! I've never had cords in my 40 years of life, it's time! I do also like dresses with opaque tights but can't really find anything.

The problem is also that I get hot and sweaty quite easily so at events I would actually prefer short sleeves if I could choose!

Maybe if they're a darker colour? Or some wide-leg tailored trousers could fit the bill?

Navy chinos with rolled bottoms, loafers and a white cotton shirt or cashmere is effortless and chic

I got two pairs of thick, sturdy chinos in M&S sale. One black, one navy. Poly-cotton so a bit more winter-friendly.

dudsville · 11/10/2023 22:14

My pair are reasonably thick cotton and not the palest of the standard chino tan colourway. I think they look nice with a jumper and boots and socks and bostons.

Wallquestion159 · 11/10/2023 22:20

@dudsville that sounds like what I am after. Do you have a link?

Unfortunately my pair are several years old and the company don't regularly make them, it was a one off during the temporary landgirl phase. If you know a brand of trousers that fit you well I'd search them for any chinos as we're all different shapes and sizes. For me i needed gently tapered wide-ish leg, and they have shallow pleats with good pockets. I'm not thrilled about the pleats but I wear my tops to just cover that part!
