Help tame my terrible hair without heat! (Pic)

If I straighten my hair it is semi ok and respectable. But it feels so dry and coarse I don’t like to use heat on it too often. It never used to be this fizzy and dry. It’s frizzes at any sign of moisture or wind so often it’s pointless to straighten it anyway. It is also quite thin.

What do I need to be doing to it? I’m so clueless I need help. I’m not sure I’m ready to grow my grey out as i think it makes me look so much older 😟 it’s also still so patchy I’m not sure it would look nice? So it is getting dyed but I do try and push it as long as I can between applications.

Does it need hair masks? Argon oil? Or is it beyond hope? Should just accept my hair will never be nice again? I’m not long from 40 but feel too soon to just give up!

What changed my hair when it started turning to straw:

  1. leaving conditioner in for about ten or fifteen minutes once a week (any conditioner for dry/frizzy hair!)
  2. argan oil (cheap ones hilariously did better than the Moroccan oil I spent so much money on!)
  3. shampooing twice using a hydrating shampoo (bonus points if it is the same brand as conditioner, my best was good old tres semme or herbal essences!)
  4. frizz ease
  5. a good heat defence spray
  6. (my biggest saviour - the Shea moisture milk for curly frizzy hair- I haven’t tried the shampoo or conditioner but this just makes your hair feel fab again!) Best of luck op!

Maybe try a different style? A bob?

For those interested in the K18 hair mask.
Remember you need to shampoo your hair but not condition it. Then use this - just two pumps - leave and style.

Your hair needs moisture, get a decent hair mask, use a drop or two of oil and let it dry naturally. I second a pp suggestion of a heatless curl band they are about a fiver on amazon, getthe soft satin sort not the harder tube sort and wrap damp hair in after a spritz of leave in conditioner. Leave-as long as you can or sleep in it and you will end up with much more defined curl. I do this regularly as without mine is a frizzy dry looking mess. Also look at the curly girl method to see if it will bring out a natural wave or curl.

@onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad

I bought that K18 stuff just haven't used it yet. Duh! I washed my hair today but might dampen it tomorrow and apply....

No, wash it, it needs to be able to penetrate. Use it 4-6 times when you first start using it, ie the first four to 6 washes. Don’t condition, after 4 mins you can put a leave in conditioner or other products you may use.

then use every second or third wash. Brilliant stuff. I’ve been using it abihr 3 months and my hair is so healthy and shiny now in comparison to before. But you need to get through those first few washes

also when you pump it into your hand rub it together till it goes white, ie emulsifying it.

If you have money, a Brazilian treatment at a salon will keep it smooth for weeks
