Face - dry flakey skin

Hello

hoping I may be able to get some suggestions for a new budget/mid price skin care product or regime. At the moment I’m using Superdrug + hyaluronic hydrating regime but my skin feels worse than ever. My forehead and eyelids now feel almost scaly (although you can’t see this) and I have dry flaking skin around my eyebrows, nose and chin soon after moisturising. I’m 40. Would prefer vegan products if possible. Thank you!

You could try La Roche Posay Dermallego cream as that sorts many issues out. Not sure if it's vegan. Maybe you have an allergy though if your skin is reacting like that?

Just about to say the same thing, that sounds like possibly an allergy or sensitivity to something.

Pare your skincare right back, wash with aqueous cream and use a basic moisturiser with nothing added, not even hyaluronic acid. Try the Ordinary or the Inkey List for basic moisturisers or Nivea or Boots own.

Also stop using the products that you're currently using immediately, they're not working for you.

Hyaluronic acid can dry out the skin as it draws moisture from its surroundings and leaves skin exposed if the moisture is not sealed in.

Had a similar problem recently, think I overdid the actives, Clinique Dramatically Different + has sorted it beautifully. You can get a little tube for £9 so not too spendy especially as a little goes a very long way.

Thanks everyone. That’s an idea about getting back to basics without all the active ingredients that seem to be in everything! Have ordered a trial kit of a l’occitane range for hydration. Used to use their stuff and loved it, think I need to invest a bit more!

L'Occitane is gorgeous and I hope it works brilliantly for you. I personally don't use it as it's not fragrance free so might not help if you do think you may have an allergy or a reaction to an ingredient which if your skin is becoming rough you may be experiencing. I don't think good skin care needs to be expensive. La,Roche Posay is not too expensive and is unscented. Or Avene. My current fave is Curel which is Japanese and quite reasonably priced. All in Boots!

Hylauronic acid really dried out my already dry skin too!
i currently use dr jart ceramidin cream, I wouldn’t call it cheap but it really does hydrate me (it’s quite thick almost greasy but I do wear makeup over it with no issues) you can buy a trial kit too which has a liquid, serum and cream!

Is it definitely just dry flakey? Is it inflamed? Would be worth ruling out seborrheic dermatitis.

I see you’ve chosen something but just in case just to let you know Cetaphil gentle cleanser has saved my life from dry episodes (and roseacea but that’s for another day) over the years, also avene skin soothing cream. No idea if any are vegan. Best of luck op!

CeraVe hydrating wash and moisturiser and stop using everything else. Anything with hyaluronic acid kills my skin so I avoid it.
