Botox not lasting

Has any one ever had Botox that just doesn’t last on them?
The first time I had it, it was done by a friend (registered nurse) who was in training, so I assumed that it didn’t last long because she wasn’t very experienced. Although she was supervised.

Then a few years later, I had it again done by someone else at a clinic. I told her about my previous experience and she suggested a top up at 2 weeks, which I had.

Still by week 4, it was fading and now at 6 weeks post first dose, it’s almost completely gone! I can frown again and the wrinkles are back.

Does my body just reject it?! Has anyone else experienced this?

My practitioner has suggested a different brand next time but I don’t want to spend any more if it’s not going to work again!

Some people have an immune response to the proteins on the surface of the Botox molecule, it’s pretty rare but it happens.
This stops it working.
look up Botox resistance and it will tell you about it.
it’s more common in people who have had lots of Botox but can just happen.

Oh no!
Google tells me I’m doomed to look old forever 😭

Ask for dysport instead of botox, that is what myself and my sister ave to get as botox does not last on us either.

gatheringplace · 06/10/2023 16:18

Me! 🥺

I'd decided for my birthday this year I would treat myself.

I did lots of research and went with a wonderful clinic. Like you, within 6 weeks it had worn off. I wasn't impressed.

The "twitching" as my muscles became active again was horrible. I had lots of spasms from around week 4 until it had completley worn off.

I have friends who get a full year out of one treatment. I wouldn't have it again. Like you, I must not take to it as well as others.

Applecrumble24 · 06/10/2023 16:34

@Neverinamonthofsundays ok thank you, I will ask.

@gatheringplace I didn’t get any twitching, thankfully.

Yes, I know loads of people who look delightfully wrinkle free with minimal use!
Would you consider getting dysport? Or are you giving up on the idea?

Do you exercise a lot!

twinklelill · 06/10/2023 17:57

?

gatheringplace · 06/10/2023 19:52

@Applecrumble24 oh the twitching felt horrible. I was surprised as I knew it could be a side effect once the Botox was wearing off, I just didn't think it would so quick. 😕

I'm not going to bother anytime soon. May possibly give it a try again in a few years. I think it's great, and if it had worked I would have definitely kept having it.

I don't fancy trying something different as it took me a long time to psych myself up for Botox!

HenryCavillsWife · 06/10/2023 19:55

I’ve found it really varies. But the injectors dilute the Botox — my most recent injector lady talked about her preferred dilution. So maybe some dilute it more than others? I always thought it came straight from the bottle.

LivelyBlake · 06/10/2023 20:06

Are you having it on your frown lines? Have you considered having a filler like Restylane instead?

Shadyboots23 · 06/10/2023 20:48

Try a different make?
This is new, my aesthetics clinic I use has just started offering it

I had mine done done a few times and it never lasted, they said it's because I have strong facial muscles. Went to another place and they said that I just needed more and its lasted so much better!!!

LadyPoison · 06/10/2023 23:26

I had it done and loved it. The third time I went back it didn't work. I had it repeated 2 weeks later - still nothing.

I am one of the unlucky ones that develop a resistance to it.

Quisquam · 06/10/2023 23:43

I have botox for a medical reason. The consultant neurologists have always told me, on no account can I have another botox injection within three months of the first ones (three at once) because of the risk of developing immunity to it. Once immune, it will never work again.

I probably have bigger doses than you, but maybe the principle is the same for some people?

Disturbia81 · 07/10/2023 04:08

Usually it's because of fast metabolism/lots of exercise

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 07/10/2023 05:47

Never tried it am 54 but would like a bit of filler on few lines around chin area, mouth but am afraid to try it. I read up that if you are in peri meno or menopause that botox may not work but not sure if you are. Did you just look fresher or did you look like had botox...

Applecrumble24 · 07/10/2023 09:00

No exercise!
Yes frown lines and forehead.

I will definitely discuss dilution and different brands etc. Maybe filler.

It did look good for around a week or two, fresh looking.
Don’t think I’m peri yet, I’m 43

Likely they've been cheap and not used enough.

Check that they used Botox, not an alternative.

The real Botox works much better for me and my practitioner uses this. When I've had azzalure, it wears off quicker.
