Camera bags with straps...dated?

I've been using mine for a couple of years now and it is just so useful, just the right size to keep phone, purse, lipbalm etc, without going overboard. I prefer a structured little bag that keeps its shape but I feel a little bit like a walking cliché now, typical 'middle aged mum' uniform with fancy woven strap. Are they a cliché?

Ready for an autumn winter bag but not sure what to go for. I really like these bags but they're very of their time iyswim.
What other similar styles could I look for which are a little different? I love a satchel/saddlebag type but the practicality of the zip top and not fiddling with clasps is a thing.

I love my Mimi Berry camera bag (the mini Felix)- it's a Tardis of a bag. But I stay away from woven straps for the reasons you say, OP - they're a bit of a cliché now.

I have to agree. I remember when ‘bum bags’ were a thing in the 90s. I just can’t see how a camera bag can look mumsy compared to a bum bag

I was going to say that DS (amateur photographer) has a little backpack for his. It's very well padded and has sections for all the lenses and things.

I have the Gucci Disco in black. Love it.

A camera bag is fine, but I don't like the webbed straps. My camera bag, which I don't use very often as it's a pale colour and very summery, has a leather strap.

I was bought one for a significant birthday. It’s a bit small for my needs as workaday bag. I prefer a messenger bag with more depth. Also, if not on underground commuting, a hobo/softish shoulder bag is good as is a slim zipped tote (try We are IA). NB I also have one of their bum bags, but the DC says it’s a roadman bag 😂 I keep saying it’s recycled from a life craft

I have two and I’m not giving them up yet; they’re in classic colours rather than trend led, and plain straps rather than patterned. I think the patterned straps are probably overdone, but you could always switch out the strap for a slimmer plain leather one? They’re just such a practical size and shape, and the Uniqlo bag looks too casual for my style.

Someone figured out the straps were fun so marketed bags around the notion of having one bag and several interchangeable straps. I keep meaning to see if actual camera bag straps fit the bag

I have two and like them as I can wear them cross body and they're big enough to get the essentials in. But I don't use the patterned straps, I use mine with thin leather straps.

I was picturing an actual camera bag, as in the type that photographers use to carry around... a camera (and extra lenses). I guess that tells you precisely how much I know about bags. I'm currently using the suede slouch bag I bought around age 17. I'm well over 40. It's still going strong! (Tbf, I haven't been using it exclusively for all these years, and other bags have taken the brunt of the work for at least a decade.)

Really don't get the love for the Uniqlo bag.

Thought you were talking about proper camera bags, like the one I carry my big Canon and lenses in. What a let-down!

That type of bag that’s the Uniqlo sling bag used to have a different name. Bit small and bumbag like

Thee camra bags are ok, but the straps are better plain.

Can you help with these? I thought the rounded grey bag would be great but somehow I'm not 100%.
The mini satchel is quite lovely, it's actually navy, I never thought I'd buy a navy leather bag but it's so dark it's not that far from black. No zip though, just the flap secured by a magnet.
The other two haven't arrived, one grey, one tan. Love the tan but can see it being damaged by my blue jeans!

Do you think these look good? Timeless? Boring? Stylish? Something else?

The camera bag with a leather strap is a classic, more so than the uniqulo bags that are everywhere (which are hard to pull off with big boobs!)
Maybe look at one of the half moon shaped ones or tan/khaki instead of black?

My favourite of those is the grey rounded bag. Have you looked at quilted leather bags? I think they're lovely.
