I'm always buying crap...

Why can't I stop buying crap clothes? I make the same mistakes all the time. Buy cheap and wonder why it's awful, swear I'll only buy quality, then do it again. I don't even know what is quality to be honest. I don't love anything in my wardrobe. I sometimes stare at it willing it to burst into flames.

What is good? What is quality? I'm a a size 16 and 5 ft 7 ginger going grey. Help!

It depends. Anything is crap if it doesn’t suit your life and just lingers sadly in your wardrobe.

What do you need to get dressed for? What’s your milieu - are you noticeably worse dressed than your peers? How much are you spending on the rubbish - and how much might you be prepared to spend on better? Do you follow fashion or just want something warm in which to walk the dog?

Are you collaborating with a competent hairdresser on the colour transition? That might be galvanising.

(I should say, while I myself am a slave to novelty and extravagance, the cleverest and most successful woman I knew in my previous profession was the very worst dressed. Buying tat isn’t unforgivable - I’m sure you have many admirable qualities …)

If the OP is repeatedly purchasing cheap and nasty stuff it doesn’t sound as if she’s desperately short of money.

I wouldn't say I have to buy cheap, yet I waste money because I keep doing so. Vinted is my downfall. I rarely get anything that's a win. I should probably increase my price range. I would like to find a brand / shop that is my always go to one. I used to have one when I was younger and thinner but not anymore.

It's comfortable, casual wear I need. I live in a Dorset village, spend most time ferrying kids around or on the side of a football pitch. Workwear is a uniform so not a problem.

Community Clothing (Don’t be alarmed if the opening page is - alarming! It’s all perfectly sane on the rest of the site.) Exemplary quality, ethics and environmental aims. They aim to keep mark-ups scrupulously low. That does not mean they are dirt cheap, but they are good value.

UK made sustainable, ethical clothing & accessories for men and women

Community Clothing was established by Patrick Grant with a simple goal; to sell quality, affordable, sustainable and ethical men's & women's clothing, whilst creating jobs & restoring economic prosperity in the UK’s most deprived areas. All clothes mad...

I think part of the problem with Vinted is it's very good and showing you things like what you've already looked at/searched for/bought. So if you've bought a lot of say Primark or Boohoo or other cheap brands, that's what it will show you.
Have you looked at any decluttering sites? There are some good tips on YouTube that can help you to be brutal in sorting out your wardrobe.
Maybe you need to have a massive clear out the have a good think about what you actually need, what suits you etc. Then maybe try stuff on in shops before hitting Vinted.

If you want more fun, the Outlet section of

https://www.americanvintage-store.com/gb/en/outlet-women/

might be worth the odd glance. (Or you could look for the brand on Vinted.) All their clothes, particularly the natural fibre things, are completely lovely and somehow make people look chic and carefree. (I wish they suited me more.)

There are lots more but most are more expensive and more dressy or urban.

Re-list the Vinted mistakes.
Read the recommendations on here for which brands to look for and shop for those on ebay and vinted. They tend to keep their value.
