Best powder for oily skin

I wear minimal makeup on my office days or when I have meetings, just some foundation around my eyes and down my cheeks to blend it in a bit and an eyebrow powder.

I like using pressed powder on top to sort of blend the areas with make up on and where I have no make (I don't wear foundation on my t-zone as I have large pores there and it always looks cakey) and to stop me from looking too shiny.

I have tried Laura Mercier and Glossier loose powders and currently use cheap Rimmel pressed powder but they only seem to keep oil at bay for a couple of hours max.

I wear no moisturiser in the day time, just some spf for oily skin. I don't want to use primer or any other products on my face.

What powder would you recommend?

My skin is no longer oily now I’m older, but when it was oily I used Lily Lolo mineral makeup (powder) instead of foundation. Worked a treat, never cakey and lasted well.

Here to say lili lolo as well. I also set with urban decay all nighter - both before makeup and after. And when out I use blotting sheets.
I'm now in my 40's and finally am less greasy.

My skin gets really oily I've been using the powder in a silver compact from Primark, I think it's supposed to be a dupe for an expensive brand. It's really good it only cost about £4!

I thought I had oily skin until I recently had a skin analysis and found out that my skin is in fact dry and dehydrated, which apparently means oil sits on the surface of my skin. I have now switched to a moisturizer meant for dry skin which seems to be helping. My foundation is at least lasting the whole day!

Where did you have this done?

Littleguggi · 05/10/2023 22:47

It was at a local spa as part of a facial, I wasn't expecting it to be honest but the therapist threw it in as an extra, I am guessing she recently had training in it and wanted to try it out!

Babygirl888 · 05/10/2023 23:05

@Littleguggi a spa i used to work at did them with facials too. you've sparked me to want an analysis now, had the same skincare routine for years!

Babygirl888 · 05/10/2023 23:08

@vestedinterests im quite oily too, i used to use a use a mattifying moisturiser and pore minimiser before putting any make up on and it really did reduce the shine. Havent worn a full face for a while but it really worked well.

vestedinterests · 06/10/2023 05:05

Thanks all. I slather on heavy moisturiser at night and drink a lot of water so I don't think my skin is dehydrated. I have tried the Lily lolo mineral foundation but it only kept oil at bay for a couple of hours. I'm nowhere near Primark otherwise would try the one suggested on here. @Babygirl888 thanks for the suggestion. I think you right, a primer might help but the mattifying ones feel very 'silicony' and I can always feel them on my skin

Mac Studio Fix and fix powder. I wish I could use them but as I got older my skin dried out, it works with the oil in the skin.

vestedinterests · 06/10/2023 07:07

@Valerianandfoxglovesoup I have just looked it up and I think this may be the answer! Thank you.

I use Soap & Glory 'One hell of a blot' pressed powder under my usual pressed foundation powder and I find this helps loads. I also carry a compact in my handbag, of it, to tap on when needed.

I wfh and when on camera I looked all shiny, this is the only thing I've found to work.

Also use setting spray after applying your make up.

vestedinterests · 06/10/2023 07:45

@wildwestpioneer yes, I should probably invest in a setting spray. Any particular one that you rate?

I like the Bare Minerals mineral veil (I use the pressed one in a compact).

samestyle · 06/10/2023 13:18

By Terry translucent powder is the best I've tried, lasts ages too

Deathraystare · 06/10/2023 18:45

@wildwestpioneer ·

You beat me to it! I just repurchased this today!
