Is there any way to stop doubled necklace from shifting?

I have inherited a beautiful 1920s bead necklace. It is quite long, I don't really like the look of a necklace hanging low over my chest but it is long enough to twist once over my head so it hangs in two equal strands and sits higher on my neck.

It is equal size the whole length and not graduated, however it still always shifts when I wear it so one strand is choking me and the other drops down low. Does anyone know any trick to stop this happening - maybe some kind of clip to keep the strands in place without damaging it?

This is like Hannah’s sweets on exams all over again :-) sorry, I can’t figure out the sustainable way to manage the necklace, but will obsess now. Hopefully, someone smart turns up here :-)

I know exactly the issue you mean but have not yet found a solution so following with interest

If you double it then sew the two strands together with invisible thread can you still get it over your head? Or do you need a solution that keeps it long while you’re getting it on, then keeps it doubled once on?

I think probably the latter @AbacusAvocado , it doesn't go on doubled. I also have another very chunky long necklace I wear double, and use a small hair claw clip on it which seems to work. But I think it could damage this one and it wouldn't look good....so wonder if there is something finer which does the same job.

Are the beads knotted? If there's a little space between the beads you could maybe buy a loose large bolt ring clasp or similar to clasp the two strands together. If you Google 'jewellery findings' you find lots of different types of clasps that might work.

Try using a ribbon or a safety pin to hold the doubled up necklace together - it could be very pretty.

That's great @LunaNorth thanks, it looks as though that could be the solution. I do prefer shorter multiple strands, long dangling 1920s style necklaces aren't for me. They just seem to get in the way and they look bad....let's just say I don't have a 1920s bust.

Thank you all.
