Wellingtons in wide fit - help!

I'm after a pair of Wellington's that are wide fit on the feet and ankle length. What are people's experiences of joules and hunters? Ive also looked at jileon, but didn't know if they were any good! I've got a high instep, wide feet and usually a size 4. Wondering if kids versions would be wide enough!!

I buy men's wellies to get the width. That might be hard as a 4 though! Hunters were good, Le Chameau are the best I've had and my last pair has lasted 10+ years so worth the intitial cost!

Muck Boots, or knock offs of Muck Boots, with the stretchy neoprene legs.

EwwSprouts · 02/10/2023 23:18

I have very broad feet and have Bogs wellies in child size 5. They are excellent and warm due to the neoprene.

Only Jileon or the wide welly company do properly fitting wide wellies. Hunters etc are all rubbish these days.

High instep, wide feet and muscular calves here. Hunters are the worse. I can't squeeze any part of me in to them. I have never tried Joules as I don't think that they would last me long. I currently have a pair of Crosslander boots in a size up from my regular size. They have lasted longer than average, are really warm and fit perfectly. And they look and feel nice.

if you're happy to spend a bob or two 'muckers' ankle length boots are the king of comf. Keep away from the cheaper Lakeland version though, because they have a much thinner sole, so not very comfortable walking on rocky footpaths.
Have to admit though I got mid-calf wellies from lidl and they are surprisingly comfy, if you have fat feet and ankles (I have very podgy feet!) then one size up, or two sizes if you intend to wear thick socks. They're grippy and fully waterproof, perfect for dog walking when it's often muddy and slippery underfoot.
I find Joules to be narrow fitting, and the Hunter version I tried felt clumpy, aigle aren't bad, but high price point.
What do you want to use them for? Only asking because I have several pairs of boots so muck boots for gardening as they are easy to slip on and off, but aren't waterproof enough for longer dog walks. Lidl boots for wet walking, proper walking boots when I need a decent tread and if heading out for two or more hours, and my dunlop boots with thick wool socks for when I'm off on my livestock rounds!

Jileon do brilliant wide fit wellies.

Levithecat · 02/10/2023 23:59

Aigle boots are amazing for my wide calves. I have had the same pair of anti fatigue boots for 12 years now and they’re still in great condition.
I find hunters too narrow.

chalkyc2 · 03/10/2023 06:36

Fit flop wellies are super comfy...often seem to be on offer too.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 03/10/2023 06:43

I can’t wear women’s wellies but can wear boys ones as they are wider.

Natasha198 · 03/10/2023 06:57

Wow thank you so much everyone for your replies! Lots of great suggestions here, I'll have a look at them all. Good to know jileon are good too.

I mainly wanted them for short walks, my DS loves a muddy adventure (and splashing in puddles - thanks to Peppa pig!).

I always struggle with my feet so will have to try a few of these!

My Joules ones aren't narrow fitting.
Don't bother with the Hunter ones.

serialbunburyist · 03/10/2023 08:07

Jileon are great, I love mine, they’re the only wellies I’ve ever been able to get to fit me

DobbyTheHouseElk · 03/10/2023 08:10

I wear the ankle high ones. Joules used to be great, but now they don’t last long. The rubber or plastic is so thin it leaks. Used to be really hard wearing.

allhellcantstopusnow · 03/10/2023 08:11

I've got jileon, they're the best ones I've found so far. Hunters are too narrow of calf and baggy of ankle.

blobby10 · 03/10/2023 09:16

Depends on your budget. My dad got some Hoggs wellies from the local farmers merchant - they are the best wellies I've ever seen and half the price of the 'trendy' makes. Made in Scotland too!. The local farmers swear by the Dunlop range - not trendy or stylish but long lasting and do the job.

If you have wide anything, steer clear of modern Hunters and Joules - my joules wellies lasted less than 2 weeks before splitting and Hunters haven't been the same quality since the 1990s.

StroppyTop · 03/10/2023 09:35

Another vote for FitFlop - wide and actually comfortable enough to walk long distances. Lovely colours too.

caffelattetogo · 03/10/2023 13:04

Joules are pretty but get wrecked in no time.

KirstenBlest · 03/10/2023 13:22

Mine weren't but generally my shoes last a long time. I've noticed that trainers fall apart a lot more quickly now and I'm not wearing cheap ones - I think it's the light fabric they use.

The Joules wellibobs aren't anywhere near as durable as Dunlop wellies but they look nicer. I think I'll get Hoggs next time

midlandsdogwalker · 15/12/2023 13:28

I could not recommend Jileon wellies at all.

I am a 4.5 shoe size (and they don’t do half sizes) with a long big toe so I usually buy a 5 in every shoe I get. So although the website says go down a size, I felt I couldn’t trust that as I’m in agony if my toes get bruised by shoes that are too short.

So my size 5’s arrived and they were ginormous, like wearing boats, not boots.

I needed to wear them that day, put on two pairs of thick socks and they were still too big, but thought I could get away with it on my regular dog walk.

Not a bit of it, my feet slid around inside the boots and I ended up with bruised toes and broken nails anyway.

I contacted Jileon and explained my situation and asked them to measure the inside of the size 4 boot so I could check the internal length against my own peculiar feet.

They wrote back and said it could not be done. So I am left with a pair of boots I wore once and no guarantee that if I buy the smaller size, they will fit me either.

i fell the customer service is non existent at worst and unhelpful at best with this company especially if you have feet that are in between their standard sizes or are otherwise oddly shaped, as mine are.

does anyone want to buy a pair of size five wellingtons in navy and white polka dots?
