Is there a way I can remove these buttons?? Help!

I have same pair of trousers but in dark denim with golden buttons - it is too bulky and I don't wear it with tucked in tops so it is a nuisance - I'd like to remove the buttons - will it end up with tiny holes or big holes?

Have you ever done something similar before? How?
Can I do it at home or take to the tailors?

Thanks

Denim is likely to tear, maybe replace with little poppers?

Yeah though about replacing them with poppers or something discreet and cute but how to remove the golden ones first?

Are they real buttonholes? How are the buttons attached?

QueSyrahSyrah · 02/10/2023 22:09

Are they from next by any chance OP? I've got the same ones if so, so I can have a look for you.

They don't open or close the trousers but the buttons are attached and go through the fabric. I tried twisting both bits on the outside and the inside of the trousers but it is fixed.

can you just snip the threads that hold the buttons in place. try with one and see how it works.

QueSyrahSyrah · 02/10/2023 22:14

They do! A side zip is always flattering.

Ok I've had a look and I've actually no idea how to get buttons like that off! I assumed they were stitched, but these are almost rivets right through the fabric that may well leave fraying holes when removed. I'm frightened to pull too hard in case I'm successful and ruin my trousers Blush

Then once they're off you'll be left with the big button holes anyway. IMO it might be a bit more hassle than it's worth. Sorry OP.

QueSyrahSyrah · 02/10/2023 22:16

For the benefit of others who may be more button savvy, this is the other side of the buttons. They're riveted in rather than stitched on.

zurala · 02/10/2023 22:19

Unfortunately you can't remove those. They are rivets, as you say, and will be through a hole in the fabric
The most you could do would be cut them off with a saw but I think that would be a lot of work and leave you with rough metal that looks awful.

Thanks now I can relax and look of the next

If you are always going to cover the place where the buttons are with a top, you could cut the rivets off with a hacksaw. It will leave a hole the size of the button shank. If you can sew, you could darn over that to stop it from fraying - it would look a mess, but it would be flat.
