Dr Sam Bunting products. Are they any good?

I am 56, skin is in pretty good condition. I have worn sunscreen everyday for decades and used various actives etc. but I am 56 and think I probably need to start upping the skin care game.
wayne Goss was waxing lyrical about some new SB moisturiser called flawless moisturiser intense. It is supposed to both repair and protect the skin barrier and be an excellent partner to tret( which I will start using again now autumn is here).
would love to hear people’s thoughts on whether it’s a good range of another load of expensive old hokum🤔

I rate the Nightly serum and the SPFs and repurchase regularly. I’ve also tried the moisturiser and cleanser and think they’re fine but probably won’t reorder.

marketing101 · 30/09/2023 19:53

I really rate then and I'm a bit skincare obsessed

I am happy with my spf but could do with adding something. Not sure what though 🤔

Sorry late to the party. I love Sam Bunting products. I use the day and night serums the moisturiser they eye cream and the spf. I haven’t tried the new intensive moisturiser yet but probably will as the weather gets colder. I’m mid 50s and my skin is in the best shape it’s ever been.

PragmaticWench · 03/10/2023 18:44

I tried the Flawless Gossamer untinted and didn't rate it. A bit cloying and left a white sheen on my skin. I wanted to love it after watching lots of her videos but it felt cheap.

Kaftankween · 03/10/2023 18:58

If it left white cast you could try the tinted spf or for untinted the daily spf which is more easily absorbed. I use shade 2 and am quite fair skinned. I don’t need foundation on top.
Each to their own but I don’t think it feels cheap. Sam runs her own clinic and is a medical doctor and I think the ingredients are pretty good. Eveyone’s skin is different and my skin is really dry. It suits me.

hettiethehare · 03/10/2023 19:19

I rate them - I don't find the range especially exciting so I often get tempted away, but I usually come back as everything I have tried does its job well and I find the basic range of cleanser, moisturiser (I like the lighter version in the day and the normal one at night) and SPF a good base to experiment with more exciting products from other ranges.

I find I have to build the SPF up in layers not to get a white sheen.

marketing101 · 03/10/2023 21:10

It's because it's a mineral Spf so greater white cast chance. I use the tinted one

BigButtons · 03/10/2023 21:21

I will probs try the intensive moisturiser . Particularly interested that it helps stop tret irritation

I've just bought that to try! I get very dry in winter (and with Tret usage)

Farmageddon · 03/10/2023 22:09

From the website it says that the Flawless Moisturiser has some good ingredients - glycerin, panthenol, ceramides etc.

To be honest you can also get those ingredients in cheaper formulas, but it seems like a pretty good rich moisturiser if that's what you're after.

Edited

I was interested in the intense version and its sunflower sprout ingredient.
also mindful that it’s only stuff like tret that actually gets anywhere past the skin barter so was it infact just another product that is sitting on the skin( but costing ££££s- but something from Superdrug would do the same thing.

I agree, as ever, with Farmageddon. @Farmageddon btw, I namechecked you on a thread about Elizabeth Arden and the new retinoid complex whatsit yesterday 😂 wondering if you knew anything about it.

Sam Bunting stuff is nice, good quality ingredients. I'd not spend that much on a moisturizer effectively made of good, but common and cheap ingredients tbh.

Wow, thanks! Not sure I'm on the level of Botemp at all, I read her cheat sheets a few years ago when I was trying to figure all this stuff out and learned so much - she's definitely the knowledgable one.
I'm afraid I'm just a bit of a cheapskate when it comes to skincare these days, I don't genuinely believe that more expensive equals better. And when you actually take a look at ingredients it's usually the case. But if people have more money to spend and like the consistency/ scent/ luxury of a certain product, then I say go for it, just don't be fooled it will necessarily do any better than the cheaper alternative.
It's also great to share some knowledge about this, because skincare is usually mired in so much marketing speak and nonsense, with all sorts of dodgy claims. Researching a bit about it all has saved me so much money, but also made my skin better - go figure!

Farmageddon · 04/10/2023 09:42

Just to give an example OP - these are two moisturisers which have similar ingredients but are much cheaper.

https://geekgorgeous.co.uk/products/happier-barrier This has squalane, lipids, ceramides etc. I use this in the winter when my skin is quite dry, it's quite emollient and very moisturising. It's about a quarter of the price of the Sam Bunting one.

https://geekgorgeous.co.uk/products/hydration-station This one I haven't used, but it looks good also - it has a lighter texture, so maybe not for you but has Ectoin and glycerin in it.

I like Geek and Gorgeous as a brand because it lists the ingredients and what their benefits are, usually also gives the percentage used and gives a bit of research. Plus the price is very reasonable.
Their Vitamin C serum is also great, I would say the best dupe available of the Skinceuticals one.

bryceQ · 04/10/2023 10:00

I have the geek and gorgeous barrier cream mentioned. I usually use Illiyoon ceramide but I've bought the new Dr Sam intensive one to try so I can compare ☺️

BigButtons · 06/04/2024 08:10

Thought I would resurrect this to report back.
I gave in and subscribed to three lots of the flawless moisturiser intense.
yes it helped me use tret for much longer without any irritation- but not a miracle.
I stopped subscribing as the price was ridiculous for what it does. I have since discovered that the nappy cream bepathan does exactly the same thing and is a fraction of the cost for much more product.
Dr Sam constantly spams my inbox- almost daily.
i also tried the stuff for spots. Stings like a bastard when you put it on- doesn’t do much for spots though.
so DR Sam is a fail for me.

Although I'm not a fan of Caroline Hirons her skincare is very good. The moisturiser is really lovely.
