Static hair - Please help, I can't see where I'm going!

I have been trying a new shampoo and conditioner that are free from parabens and sodium laureth sulphate, but since I started using it my hair is super static (stuck to my face mostly).

My static hair has been so bad today that I've had to scrape it back off my face completely - this is NOT a good look on me, I can tell you.

Does anyone have any advice? Will I have to stick to using petrochemicals on my hair after all?

I heard holding your wrists under cold running water for a minute will help remove static from yuor body - could be a load of arse but worth a go?

it is high pressure which usually causes it, may be co-inciding with your new product. what are you wearing? i find it worse in manmade fibres. i am curly so dread the rain more for frizz but do suffer much with electric shocks from filing cabinets.

Do you think it could be my shellsuit causing it then?

Seriously, I am not wearing anything different to my normal attire, which is mostly cotton.

I have tried earthing myself with cold water and touching the taps and radiators and whatever else people recommend....

It is horrible, I'm not sure I want to leave the house like this

I have a wide tooth comb thing for a quick detangle after I wash my hair whilst still damp and a paddle brush that I use generally. I haven't used a hairdryer as I like it to dry naturally (no time to style really)

Well I decided to try the remains of my usual shampoo and conditioner today instead, and my hair is static free!

I'm a bit disappointed really as I was keen to give the chemical free one a chance. Maybe I'll try it again when the weather changes? (I'm clutching at straws as to the cause of my embarrassing static problem).

Have you been rubbing balloons on your head?

If so, try not doing it for a while and see if it helps.

Washersaurus · 06/03/2008 20:53

Boco, I think if I did rub balloons on my head I could start a fire/cause a power surge, my static has been so bad .

frizz ease

can't be without it

Washersaurus · 06/03/2008 21:03

But frizz ease is too heavy for my fine hair - it just makes it look lank and greasy I can't afford styling products anyway

I use the tiniest dob of it - literally, the size of a pea. I can't use it all the time but normally use it when I want my hair to not look like a scarecrow (I also have painfully fine hair - like baby's hair lol). I too get the 'hair plastered on face look' that is extremely unattractive, especially this time of year - think there must be lots of static about!

I think I bought one tube of frizz ease about 6 months ago and I'm not even a quarter of the way through. It lasts for ages.
